Best gift? How about stop referring to them as a "kid".

Seriously though, it all depends on who the "kid" is to you and how much you are willing to spend. Not to mention, what are they in to.

Take him to a Vegas trip = gambling, free drinks, strip joints....what else can a guy ask for?

seriously though....just give him any alcoholic beverage like a bottle of Patron silver or some chivas

Id say liquor too,
but to W211 - I think patron and chivas is still within reach and not that exciting. I'd say some Corzo or Macallan for teq and scotch.

I'm not 21 but still a big partier so i know my shi!t.
a vegas trip would be cool too

Depending on your relationship to them a nice watch could be the go, or a signet ring or something?

Otherwise some decent grog could be the go. How about some nice old single malt?

Xeon, exactly. But, its also a way of saying your now of age. I drank way before I turned 21, but I had friends and family give me alcohol on my 21st. In fact my parents took me to the store to buy my first legal bottle of wine in the US.

i guess you are right...i know someone who received a key on her 21st bday..at first, she thought it was a key to her family safety box or a new car, in the end, her parents told her that it was the "key to freedom"

How many people at 21 can truly appreciate the taste of fine alcohol? That is a waste IMO. Get him/her some mutual funds started.

Ha! A Rolex, how mainstream...
If he/she would like a watch I'd give him/her one of these:
Lange & Soehne are so goddamn expensive, and they're kind of underground. No one really knows them, just the pros. He/she is going to something really really exclusive

And I think you're right, most kids have contact with alcohol far before legal age. Here in Germany, beer and wine are allowed from 16 onwards, the harder stuff from 18 onwards, but I've made experience with both when I was 12 and 13.
So much on that. (Strangely, it doesn't have any negative influence on me, I'm still straight A)
