Hey, never driven a 535 but I'll tell you this: the 550i HANDLES 3,000,000x better than any of my cars. Honestly, the E55 feels like a Toyota (handling wise) compared to the 550i. I think that the 550i is an absolutely fantastic car, not to mention that you don't have to pay for fluids, brakes, or any other components that Mercedes charges you up the A$$ for. I was looking at the M5 but found it a nuisance that the SMG in "Auto" mode is extremely jerky. In L.A. traffic, I don't want to shift all the time and just want a smooth automatic. The 550i Sport is just that - an M5 without the V10. Fast, luxurious, a wonderful automobile. I am neither a BMW fanatic nor a Mercedes fanatic. I am, however, a quality fanatic and for cars that are priced over $70k one would expect GREAT build and quality. My E55 has been a disappointment in those areas (everything from squeaking brakes, speakers falling from their casings, squeaking suspension, etc...). It's funny because I used to drive an '01 540i Sport, then a CLK500 + E55, now back to BMW with the 550i --- I wonder what's next? Maybe a move back to Benz, maybe not? You can't go wrong with a 535, 550i or any other BMW.

Actually, things can go wrong...
I'm not sure what that part of the suspension is called..but it is suppose to hold the wheel in place (That's what the tow truck driver told me). Well, it snapped for no reason and it literraly drove the wheel into my front bumper... But maybe it's because of the class difference..a 330 and a 550

I have heard that too from many people (BMW and non-BMW), that the 5 series handles VERY well.
