People will need to turn vegetarian if the world is to conquer climate change, according to a leading authority on global warming.

In an interview with The Times, Lord Stern of Brentford said: “Meat is a wasteful use of water and creates a lot of greenhouse gases. It puts enormous pressure on the world’s resources. A vegetarian diet is better.”

Direct emissions of methane from cows and pigs is a significant source of greenhouse gases. Methane is 23 times more powerful than carbon dioxide as a global warming gas.

Lord Stern, the author of the influential 2006 Stern Review on the cost of tackling global warming, said that a successful deal at the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December would lead to soaring costs for meat and other foods that generate large quantities of greenhouse gases.

BUT, at least this is a weak issue coattails jumping based on a sound ethical belief. He is trying to save the food with faces and not promoting a fake issue for his own enrichment or advancing the power of government over people.

wait.

Quote:
Lord Stern, a former chief economist of the World Bank and now I. G. Patel Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics, warned that British taxpayers would need to contribute about £3 billion a year by 2015 to help poor countries to cope with the inevitable impact of climate change.
Damnit. Well, at least we can fall back on the concept that he is still trying to advance a deeply held ethical belief.

Wait.

Quote:
Lord Stern, who said that he was not a strict vegetarian himself, was speaking on the eve of an all-parliamentary debate on climate change
Damnit!

UN signals delay in climate change treaty

Really? Now, why would that be the case?

Quote:
Janos Pasztor, director of the secretary-general's Climate Change Support Team, said Monday "it's hard to say how far the conference will be able to go" because the U.S. Congress has not agreed on a climate bill
Quote:
He said two key unresolved issues are agreement on emission reduction targets for industrialized countries and how to finance actions by developing countries to limit their emissions growth and adapt to the effects of climate change.

Developed countries want to provide money for specific actions to curb emissions — but developing countries say the actions depend on how much money they're going to get, Pasztor said, and that still hasn't been decided.
Ah. So, the US has not yet volunteered how much money we are willing to be extorted out of so that puts the kibosh on everyone elses' efforts? If the point if for the "Industrialized" world to agree to limit emissions, why would the US Congress' rightful fear of allowing said extortion to take place slow the rest of the world's rightful efforts to damage their own econom......err......emissions rates?

Obviously, the entire point is simply to get money out of the US.

Wow, how upset the Third World Order must be that they can't bend over the industrialized countries to mother of all wealth redistributions. Bush told them to go eff themselves but now, they got the POS in the WH that believes himself to be future crowned king of that order in several years......so he IS going to screw the US.....if the Senates let's him.

That's very interesting, and factual, but again, what do facts mean to these people?

Wait, I thought the whole goal of preventing global warming was to solve the droughts that are supposed to result from the warmer climate?

We can probably engineer Earth's climate to cool the planet, scientists say, but are we willing to live with the downsides? Those could include creating more droughts, more ozone holes...

I spend two hours dismantling the garbage in their front page article with FACTS. Real FACTS. Indisputable FACTS. I bet ANYTHING they will not publish it.

I have spend so much time studying the energy sector and renewables that I can say with authority that wind, the MAJOR renewable will never be anything more then filler. Unless of course we want to pay a buck a kilowatt.

Last but not least.....this is the kind of trash that IPCC uses as "proof".

Global warming will ensure that we're all going to burn to a crisp

http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/?repor...ted=Get+Report

For the nation as a whole, it was the third coolest October on record. The month was marked by an active weather pattern that reinforced unseasonably cold air behind a series of cold fronts. Temperatures were below normal in eight of the nation's nine climate regions, and of the nine, five were much below normal. Only the Southeast climate region had near normal temperatures for October.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/ear...l-warming.html

Quote:
Professor Ian Plimer, a geologist from Adelaide University, argues that a recent rise in temperature around the world is caused by solar cycles and other "extra terrestrial" forces.

He said carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, widely blamed for global warming, is a natural phenomenon caused by volcanoes erupting.

"We cannot stop carbon emissions because most of them come from volcanoes," he said. "It is a normal element cycled around in the earth and my science, which is looking back in time, is saying we have had a planet that has been a green, warm wet planet 80 per cent of the time. We have had huge climate change in the past and to think the very slight variations we measure today are the result of our life - we really have to put ice blocks in our drinks."

Most mainstream scientists agree that the recent warming period was caused by an increase in carbon dioxide since the industrial revolution.

However Prof Plimer said the world has experienced three periods of cooling since 1850 and furthermore carbon dioxide was increasing during many of those cooler periods.

"If we had only had warming, then there would be a connect between co2 and temperature, there is not," he added.

Prof Plimer has come under attack as a "denialist poster boy" whose theories are in danger of stopping the world from tackling the grave dangers of climate change.

But he said the scientists "frightening people witless by following the party line" are motivated by politics and research funding.

"They are taking advantage of the current situation. That is understandable. In previous times people got wonderful research grants in a war against cancer and they achieved a lot of money for that. Now we have a war on climate change and we have a huge number of people out there who have their career staked on it and are beneficiaries of this process."

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/env...allowance.html

Quote:
Lord Smith of Finsbury believes that implementing individual carbon allowances for every person will be the most effective way of meeting the targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

It would involve people being issued with a unique number which they would hand over when purchasing products that contribute to their carbon footprint, such as fuel, airline tickets and electricity.

Like with a bank account, a statement would be sent out each month to help people keep track of what they are using.

If their "carbon account" hits zero, they would have to pay to get more credits.
You see, its not about the "Environment". Its about money, and the power and control that goes with it.

Quote:
He said: "A lot of people who cycle will get money back. It will probably only be bankers and those with extravagant lifestyles who would lose out."
Why's it always have to be bankers cast as bad guys?

What a briliant idea. There is NO LIMIT to the amount of taxes one can collect from that. EVERYTHING we do can be taxed.

One question, wh othe f**k put them in charge and why the f**k are we even listening to them? And when the f**k are we going to put politicians in charge who will tell them to...you geuessed it...F**K OFF.
