Undercover COP cars...

i was driving home on the freeway today and i saw a kid driving a Scion tC tailgating a Toyota 4Runner, then he change lane and speed up. As he speed up the Toyota got behind him turn on his siren and pull him over, i was totally looking around the road and checking out where the siren coming from because i just can't believe that cop are now using a plain looking toyota as highway patrol now because the car has a normal California plate instead of "CA exempt" ones, the light lights up on his license plate mount so people can hardly notice.

It took the Scion couple seconds to think before he pull over...

just to share this story... i guess too many people are looking out for the same old Crown Victoria and now they gonna do something new

also what kinda else of the cop "undercover" car have you seen on the road?

Yep, no longer crown vics. I've seen:

Ford 500 - Plain jane, no markings, tint or antennas.
Ford Taurus - same as above
Ford Econoline Van - all tinted out, can barely see the lights in the rear window pane.
Dodge Durango - tinted
a few more but you get the idea. They'll take anything these days and turn them in to UC cars.

+1.

I've driven past at least a dozen different domestic models with people pulled over, and been pulled over by an F150, Monte Carlo, and Mustang, but I've never seen any foreign cars.

Just be careful out there.

There are a lot of posers who hook up sirens and lights to their cars and use these cars to commit crimes.

If you're in a really dark unpopulated area you can always call 911 to verify if that is a cop or not. If you are unsure, just put your hazards on, and continue SLOWLY signally all lane changes ect. If dispatch is unsure of the officers identity, make sure you continue driving until you can pull over in a populated area.

If the cop asks you, just say you were unsure if they're really cops or not, so you called 911 to ask, and you continued on your way only going to pull over in a safe place in case they were fakes. They should understand.

There was an outbreak of fake cops going around a few years ago around here. I really don't think undercover/unmarked cars should be able to pull people over, it is just too risky considering traffic violations are only revenue generating.

Save the undercover crap for catching real criminals.

In Tampa we have Mercury Marauder with a supercharged V8. State troopers with LT-1 Camaro, crown vics, ford 500, F-250, Lincoln LS, Mustangs, and once I saw an old school Donk pulling someone over. Purple, gold rims. Hideous. Impounded from a drug dealer I'm sure.

My fav police car...

No budget worries for the NYPD I see?

I see white Chargers on my commute. No markings, but you can tell from the extra lights in the back window if you get close enough.

No friggin way would I pull over for a taxi cab - or a F250 for that matter. They better have a marked car nearby so I knew it was legit.

If I was being pulled over by a taxi with lights, the first thing I would do is call 911 to make sure its legit.

I got pulled over by a F-250. Doing 95 in a 55 on I275. He had so many lights I just figured he was a cop and when he got out I could see he was in uniform. I didnt evne question it. I've seen enough undercovers to know that is a vehicle they drive.

Altho, I think it is very unsafe to have so many undercover cars that are unmarked.

im gonna guess they didnt buy that, more of a confiscation...
ive read a lot of stories bout cops getting cars from people thrown in jail and using them as promo cars, or UC's

the story below is of a viper that was taken from a high speed chase and turned into a D.A.R.E car

http://www.nbc5.com/news/13526593/detail.html

Quote:
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- A Naperville man learned a hard lesson about speeding when his prized sports car was seized by authorities who clocked him traveling 127 mph in a 35 mph zone.

The lead-footed motorist’s violation came to light recently when Plainfield police unveiled their new DARE car: a 2000 Dodge Viper.

Plainfield patrol Officer Mario Marzetta was about finished running radar on Essington Road in March 2006 when the catch of the day flew by.

He heard it before he saw it -- the Viper’s engine revving high before the car passed him traveling nearly 100 mph over the speed limit.

The driver was eventually charged with felony fleeing and eluding police, while his car became the property of the Plainfield Police Department. Plainfield authorities wouldn’t identify the driver.

Now the shiny black Viper with a cognac leather interior has a fresh-paint detail and is outfitted with lights, ready to serve as the department’s new DARE car. DARE stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education.

The DARE car, which will be taken to community events, block parties, parades and schools, will make its public debut Tuesday at Cruise Night in downtown Plainfield.

The car’s custom paint job features an airbrushed American flag design on the hood.

The vehicle has 17,000 miles on it and is in like-new condition.

When Marzetta dropped the man off at the Will County Jail, the officer “thanked” him for the car.

The 2000 Dodge Viper was sold by dealers for about $68,000 and today has a Kelley Blue Book retail value between $33,000 and $40,000.

On Wednesday going to the city in rush hour as usual right after the Prospect becomes the BQE there is a long line and 9/10 take the empty white strip for emergency pullovers to pass 30 cars and go to the front.

A black Charger cuts ahead of me and Im about to go to the white strip but he is partially blocking me. I honk once tiny and stick my hand out the window , Im like come 'on man go this way come on.

Instantly I see lights(Sirnes) from his taillights, he is an undercover cop lol. He went to those white lanes, I didnt budge and just waited in line haha.

There are also undercover Cherrookes and on Wednesday again whm I nought my PS3 in the middle of Kingshighway in FUll traffic a Malibu pulls over some poor person in a toyota lol. Imagine what that did to traffic.

Yes, when I was in NY a few years back for New Years I saw that as well. My buddy was like, "They don't mess around up here."

I've seen undercover Avalanche's out here in Illinois.

I've always seen American cars

The only *undercover* holy crap that's not a Charger with tricky markings, I think have been promo cars like Vipers and Porsches and stuff like that

This changes a lot
I thought the purpose of police wasn't to catch bad guys
but it was to prevent crime

Isn't that way uniforms are made to intimidate
You better not screw up around an officer!
