Nice. I called again and got another VM after stopping at the address that appeared to be a desolate warehouse with only gated entrances. I'll see if I get a call back.

A good gun store on LI is this one, they have tons of assault rifles. The owner, Stan, is a good guy. They charge 10% to get a firearm delivered to them from an online store/auction or outta state.

I don't know how far away are they from you but I'd call ahead just so I'd come prepared there. They have no problem placing an order for you over the phone so all you'll have to do is show up and pick up your gun already waiting for you. They're about 40 mins away from me but those guys are waaay better than the gun hating NYC gun shops, they look at you like a dirty criminal if you're not a cop, at least that's the welcome I've recieved. Even after I'd present them with a firearm permit they still weren't very (at all!) helpful. I was glad to take my business elsewhere.

Do I need to have a permit first?

Don't know about that, somebody have mentioned a gun card of some sort. I live in NYC and a firearm permit is a must here. They make you jump though quite a few hoops for it too.

After reading all this discusion I feel sorry for you all. Out here in Arizona, they do not infringe on your 2nd amendment rights too much. You can buy guns from private parties, have high capacity magazines, and alot more freedoms. It is too bad. I hope it gets better on the East coast to be a gun owner.

Have a great 4th of July.

gqa, sorry for the delayed response... There are only 3 semis you can get in NYC: Ruger 10/22, Browning BAR and Mini-14/30. That's it! If you'll find any others that I can own here please let me know! Some gun stores will actually claim that 10/22 is illegal here, NOT TRUE.

Its not difficult to obtain the Class III Federal Firearms License, apply through the ATF, they do a pretty thorough background check, and pay them about $200. The problem is that a "cheap" fully automatic and FULLY legal full auto rifle will start around $10,000-15,000 for used M-16's. You could modify AR-15's, AK's, etc, but if you get caught with one of those, your in some serrious ****

Not accurate info.

An actual "Class III" license is held by a Federal Firearms License holder (Gun Dealer), the so-called Class 3 portion is a Special Occupational Tax that allows that dealer to buy/sell Title II firearms (machineguns, destructive devices, silencers, short barelled rifles & shotguns & "any other weapons).

The process of obtaining a ATF "Form 4" (which allows personal ownership of Title II weapons), may or may not be difficult. Lots of variables: your state's laws, your city/county's laws & judges/LEO's that must sign off to allow you to possess one in your area, background/fingerprint check, and then the measly $200 tax. Also, the $200 tax is not for a license, it's a tax paid on each Form 4 you have. It's not a blanket, one shot deal for any number of weapons; each time you want a new one, you go through the process again. Each time you sell one, your buyer does the same thing.

More detailed, accurate & up to date information is available here:

Thanks, thats the same info I found as well. The only problem now is coming up with the $15,000 for a legal AK47.

Andy is correct, and you can buy sears to make an M16 fully automatic, the $200 tax stamp would be for the sear and not the weapon itself.

there are other ways to get form 4's other than just to yourself, you can also setup an LLC.

I thought this was posted in here at one point earlier. LAW There is a website out there, somewhere, that tells you the states that allow, and the states that do not allow Class III.

Class 1 - importer of Title 2 firearms
Class 2 - manufacturer of Title 2 firearms
Class 3 - dealer of Title 3 firearms

Andy - Class 3 SOT does not include DD. that's a separate SOT category.

Class 3 is technically not accurate to use when identifying the type of
firearms under the National Fireams Act. More accurate is "Title 1" (pistols,
rifles, shotguns, pistol gripped shotgun of the type sold at Walmart, et al),
or "Title 2" (MG, SI, SBR, SBS, AOW).

great write up by James Bardwell, esquire

Doh, you're right. I knew I'd miss something in there. It's been awhile since I've actively done anything with transfers. The brain is collecting dust...
