It sounds to me like you really have no clue how to open, let alone fix a dishwasher (not that there's anything wrong with that, neither do I).

So like I said, get your azz to the local appliance store and just buy a new one. Trying to get it fixed ain't worth it because just to come out these days Sears and other companies charge like $70-$140 (on top of the repair), trust me, I got hosed 6 months ago. Guy was there for 10 minutes, changed a $1.45 part and smacked me for $100 "service call". Now the thing's broken again.

Besides I want my $12.50 from Obama. Maybe the last dime I get from the government until his leech ass is out of office in 2012. So I'm headin' to Sears!

If your Dishwasher is more than 6 or 7 years old it is most likely worth it to get a new one. The new ones are more efficient, quieter and have Stainless Steel interiors that is a real step up over the plastic interiors.

Yep-the guy from Sears at least kissed me before he screwed me - told me that it was "amazing" that my dishwasher lasted 8 years. They typically only last 6-7". Nice huh?

I find it interesting how some men will think nothing of doing repairs on their cars, but are afraid to touch an appliance. I had the a pulley wheel break on my washing machine. Ordered the part online for like $5 and it took about 10 minutes to replace. The water pump on my refrigerator stopped working (it pumps water to the ice maker and to the door dispenser). Ordered the pump online for something like $30. This took less than 5 minutes to replace. Both of these things were over 3 years ago and are working fine to this day without a problem. It's amazing how easy it is to fix a lot of problems. A quick Google search of a problem along with your make and model number, and you're off and running. There are plenty of online companies where you can find the smallest of parts too. I've used partselect.com on a few occasions and they've been pretty good.

My cheap ass dishwasher is over 9 years old. My wife wanted to replace it soon after we moved in because it is loud! Not sure why I haven't done it yet. But the only problem I ever had with it was when the drain hose split. Picked up a new hose at Lowes for a few bucks, and installed. Probably took about 20 minutes because I had to fish the hose through to the under the sink area (around a corner), but other than that, it was pretty simple if you know how to tighten a hose clamp.

That's true. I fix just about anything on the house itself - electric, plumbing, painting, carpentry, etc. But I typically don't touch appliances. DOn't know why, never gave it much thought.

My dishwasher has had it though. It's all screwy now and the baskets are shot (Like $300 for the friggin baskets!), not bad for a $1,000 dishwasher eh? Seems like the more you spend, the more they suck.

I was expecting to come here today and have Mr. B tell us about his brand new dishwasher.....

Yay, no more hand washing. Last night, my friend who knows what he is doing helped me install my new shiny black Maytag with the hidden buttons.

After I failed at figuring out what was wrong with the old one, we ended up at Lowe's, and I picked out a different brand that fit my need to be black, clean design, quiet, and not crazy expensive. There was one that was a perfect fit, so I ordered it. I checked Consumers ratings, and everything except Fischer Paykel was about the same, repair-wise. The top rated models were Sears brand, so I popped into Sears to have a look. The experience was so pathetic, I quickly left. Hence Lowe's.

10 days later, no word from Lowe's, so we call to find out the model we paid for is on permanent backorder and to come in and pick something else out "at a higher price that will be waived". I thought that was rather vague, but we went in the next day, spoke to the dept manager, and got the different one that we liked. The $250 difference was waived by the manager, which I thought was nice. Good for Lowe's.

Good deal! Sounds like everything worked out. Your WIFE must be glad that she no longer has to clean dishes by hand, right?

She is. She was standing in the kitchen last night holding a glass of wine and staring at the washer.

I think that was some sort of foreplay.
