Antimatter found in lightning

http://www.sciencenews.org/view/gene...d_in_lightning

Quote:
During two recent lightning storms, Fermi recorded gamma-ray emissions of a particular energy that could have been produced only by the decay of energetic positrons, the antimatter equivalent of electrons. The observations are the first of their kind for lightning storms. Michael Briggs of the University of Alabama in Huntsville announced the puzzling findings November 5 at the 2009 Fermi Symposium.
Now we need to figure out a way to harvest it, you need 10 magnitude more chemical energy from the energy emitted by antimatter

Oh nvm banks are better off with trillion dollar bailouts and some police department in the stix needs a tank.

.
Give or take a magnitude.

I ready to trade my wind turbines for antimatter pods.

I'll never forget the time I watched a hurricane pass by on the horizon, I forget which one it was now. Its difficult to measure the size of something that far away, but I was guess it was a two mile wide ball of lighting.

Yeah-but think of the amount of AM that you need to replace or even substitue what we have now. IIRC you need like 10M lbs of it to blow up the earth.

I was on vacation in Tobago, stayed at the Coco Reef. I have to look back to find out what month it was, I think it was the one a couple yrs ago that Jamaica got slammed. In any event, it was one of the coolest natural events that I have ever seen.

We heard the waves crashing really hard, which is strange for that island bc the reefs are protecting it. You can go out pretty far with the water only reaching your waist. (on a side note with the reef and the fact that it is just below the hurricane belt it is the cheapest place in the Caribbean to insure your yacht.)

There was no rain, but what caught our attention was the brightness outside. At night you can easily eyeball many constellations, my favorite there is the archer. Pardon the distractions, it was a constant huge ball on lightning that went across the horizon at a very rapid pace, we were able to enjoy it for about 20min. Our camera was unable to capture a good picture, being night time, and lightning being very difficult to shoot in the first place.

If it were possible, I could only imagine the amount of energy you could harness from capturing lightning.

It's called Sagittarius, which is my sign. Speaking of which, I have a birthday coming up.

Dark matter-and there is a lab here in MN (old mine shaft) that is trying to get it to interact so we can see what it does-I've been trying to find as much as I can on dark matter-really really interesting stuff!

You'll see. Once they get that giant Hadron Collider going in Europe, they'll cause a rift in the space continuum which will allow all sorts of dark matter to flow through, killing everybody. This will occur in 2012.

Talking about lightning....

Last time I was in my house in Greece, about 20 km off in the the hills there was a lightning storm. It lasted for about half an hour and it was the most beautiful thing that I have ever seen. Over my house it was a clear night and 20 km away all hell was breaking loose. Next day, we found out that several forest fires had broken out BUT thankfully, the rain contained them.

You should contact the MIT tech transfer office... they could tell you about on-going research or even patents that they hold!

EDIT: I was scanning some journals for another topic and came accross this:

Dark-matter test faces obstacles
