1977 450 SEL--High Miles--Should I buy it?

Hey everyone,

I have owned several Classic MB's over the years, but never one with this high of mileage. It's a great looking, good condition 1977 450 SEL, but it's got 170K miles. Does anyone have any suggestions about what to look for? How to gauge the engine condition? I really love this model, but not sure how I feel about the possibility of a complete rebuild coming down the road. Thanks!

Hey my 450SEL 6.9 has 150K on it, and runs great, but i doubt you'll have to rebuild it anytime soon if you maintain it right. What's the price of this car anyway?

170K on a car from 1977 is what you could call a light-usage car. If the mileage were consistent, that would average out to around 5K miles per year. That could be good, but, if the Benz has sat for a period of time a whole other litany of issues could've cropped up. Caveat emptor.
