This is an old shot, But i have replaced the fog lamp lens and done a few more things to it since then. 1986 420SEL a 1 owner from Texas before i got it. Just had new guide rod bushings installed (what a pita) and had the trans resealed.

Old car drives new! I hate those wheels and are looking for 18" Chrome AMG style wheels. Any suggestions on the best place to shop for a set?

These pictures bring back a lot of good memories of our old family car. This is also the car I came home from the hospital in.

Nice ride but sheesh.....not to bust balls, but couldn't you at least hit the front wheels with a little soap & water before taking the pics.

in my opinion it's wrong to mod any mercedes (except the newer AMGs, of course), especially the w126. the w126 is such a classy car, so modifying would destroy the timelessly perfect lines.

going for amg rims are the most i'd do on the car, no lowering etc.

Ah, to modify or not to modify?
I have 2 Porsches and I've ALWAYS sworn by keeping to the 'Stuttgart Standard' and never vary.
When I bought my 560SEL, I got it as just a run around but I loved driving it so much I found myself restoring it.
Originally I just wanted to get the original AMG option pack that was offered in 1986 but I couldn't find much at all. I got a new AMG [Italian] steering wheel, the original rear spoiler new and a set of AMG 17x7.5 & 8.5 rims but no engine parts.
Then I saw an AMG supercharger for sale from an E55. Too much work I thought but I had a quick look and next minute I own a complete 2003 E55 AMG motor and trans and so the project is on in a big way.
I'm trying to do everything I can in keeping with the original 'style' of the 560 and except from under the bonnet, it should look like a 1986 AMG 560SEL.
It's turning out to be VERY expensive but fun so far.

Currently she is still dead stock but I have got the wheels refinished and new 265/40/17 & 235/45/17s fitted and in my shed. I've got the spoiler and a set of drilled, slotted discs on there way from the States. I was glad the 17" AMG rims fit without any guard biffing, so I'm going to put them on straight away, or when the new wheel bolts get here. I have to get most parts from the US and ship them out here to Australia, so it all takes longer. The motor/trans I got from Europe and that's on a ship now. I'm currently trying to buy/find a wrecked E55 [W210] body to source all the electronic controls and wiring, plus things like the electric air injection pump, intercooler system and oil cooler system and because I'll loose my rear suspension iol pump, maybe the E55 air shocks.
Lots to do.

After the rain. The drivers mat is a little dirty and the seat needs more cleaning, but she glows when the light is right.
