Just bought a 93 300 SE

Well I made a jump! Having owned a E420 for the last 6 years and I still love that car ! I was at auction last nite and a private owner had her 93 300se she had to sell. I have always been looking at that model ! nice lines and god what a nice ride! I have a few little things to sort out main one being the AC one of the reasons got it so cheap! Car was well taken care of but I do not know when the fuel filter was changed? Just where is it located?? Anybody have any experience with the AC?? Compared to my E420 looks mighty complicated!! When I get it sorted I will put up some pics . Next thing my friends are going to be calling me Roger 2 Benz!!

The fuel filter and pump are in the rear of the car under a panel, the AC evaporator requires the entire console and dash to be removed, sadly it is a common issue on the early 140s. The rest of the sad story is that the typical job falls in the $4,000 area, and rookies can mess things up especialy finding fasteners and putting every thing back properly. You can read all about it here

Well I am slowly working out some of the problems with my new 300SE. I got the fuel filter changed , same as my E420. I put new brake pads on all the way around and it needed it. lGot my front and rear bumper sanded out getting ready to repaint front and rear! Kind of rough. Wondered what I was going to do for tunes since FM is for crap here in the Mtns. and I don't care for cassette tape. I went out and got one of those Ipod things and a cassette interface !Man that puppy is to neat . A zillon tunes and did not have to rewire a new radio. I had one of those cell phone holder in my E420 that I did not use and it fit the Ipod thing to a tee!!! Will post some pics when I get it all sorted out!! I am still working on the AC Maybe some hope yet!!

I remember that problem. Had that on my 94 S420. It happened around 98 or 99. Luckily we called MB corporate and they arranged a free good will repair at the time.

Ya, the cassette adapter is awesome. I remember my 6 CD changer went bad. The 92 - 93 years actually had a 10 CD changer cause my friend had a 500 SEL. What a car that was, reclining rear bench, I'll never forget that.

Well cross yer fingers I hope I now have AC!!!!! I ordered a new drier and it came yestereday 2 days from Cal. I was inpressed. Well got it installed last nite pulled a hard vacuum gave it a shot of oil and started letting it suckup the 134a ! After about 2 and a half cans it stared to get cool. I ran in 1 more and she cooled off nice. Still have some bubbles in the drier but I think if she holds they will go away. I went out this morning and started her up and she was blowing cold. I used Super Seal on this one and my E420 same prob. Been over a year on the E420 so I am keeping finger crossed this baby holds. I really gag on a $4000 AC fix!! Will start painting the bumpers tommorrow and then all is left is the jammed shifter! Wonder if someone will tell me why to do the simplest thing you have to almost disasemble the car??? Example remove the wood over the shifter!!

They are usually s l o w leaks, at least in the beginning. It's just most W140 owners aren't DIY's and the cost of having it serviced every few months adds up, and that IF you can get an A/C repair person to add freon with a known leak.

Well getting things pretty well sorted! finished painting the bumpers got it buffed out and waxed and installed new floor mats . I also put in a new set of spark plugs "needed them" . All I have left to do is fix the shifter and not a big hurry there! Now it is time to look for some bling! Looking at a wood steering wheel and new wood shift knob! A chrome surround for the shifter selector. Oh ya almost forgot the clock is not working?? Can set the time but will not keep time?? Not sutre what to do here? any ideas?? Now I can take some pics and get them posted .
