problem with down shifiting

Will it downshift manually?
Check for restriction/debris behind the pedal and around the kickdown switch. It should always kick down when that switch is depressed unless your speed is greater than about 80mph. Other things to look at are the bowden cable and vacuum leaks leading to the trans modulator.
