gauges flashing 400 se

My gauges are not working I seen a thread about what is going on but If I change my cluster will that take care of the problem or do I need to get my cluster rebuild

You could do either, but you must remember there is the odometer issue

ever remedied?

was this problem ever fixed in the later production years?
did this problem exist from the beginning of w 140 production until the 1999 end of model run.

There were three generations of the cluster, the early ones were replaced with the digital under warranty, and sold at reduced prices post warranty. That ended a while later, the problem all but disapeared, see link.

If I buy a cluster that has a small chip on the right side of the cluster not the clear glass . Can I use my old cluster the old frame you know the shell that fits in the dash

Hi Peter
If I buy a used cluster. Can I use my old cluster shell and rebuild my cluster.
Is there any special tools to rebuild the cluster .
I found one with a small chip on the right side of black plastic.Looks like it got chiped when they removed it.

I would assume so if it is identical, I think the designs changed slightly. I sent mine to Programma (local) and got it back the next day, all bulbs changed, and the power transistors and capacitors, $350 with 2 or 3 year warranty. Breaking the glass is common even with the pulling hooks, i got mine out thru the A/C vent
