Cracked wheel, warranty denied

Cracked wheel, warranty denied
Slow air leak on my '04 SL500, 31K miles. Turned out the stock MB wheel has a hairline crack on the inside rim. No impact damage -- looks like a stress fracture.
Still under factory warranty. Dealer declined to replace it under warranty because the wheels are chrome. Said the wheels were probably chromed by the dealer when the car was sold new - MB doesn't have chrome wheels.
I guess I'm screwed
Offered to repair the crack (weld) for $175, but I'm leery of that. Anyone have thoughts about repairing these wheels? Any sources for replacement instead (other than dealer?)

So when you buy a TV from best buy and two years later it breaks Best Buy should buy you a new one? Dont you think the manufacturer of the TV should cover it? So in this case the people who chromed the wheel should cover it.
Plus stress cracks are not warranty items since hitting something stressed it and cracked it.
I had to buy a new wheel for 1.5k after hitting a pot hole. Cant ask RENNtech to pay for it since damage is not their fault.

Here's a question, can someone show me what a stress crack is?
I'm starting to worry about mine and wont know if it would need work or not?
