Antenna stolen, need replacement
Hi all,
Someone stole the antenna from my R171 SLK, so I need a replacement.
It's a 2007 SLK350, so I have 3 options.
1. identical SLK antenna
2. shorter SL antenna (will it fit without any issues?)
3. 2009 SLK antenna (again, will it fit on this model?)
Let me know if you have one that you would like to sell (donate?) to me.
I will pay for shipping and/or come pick up if it's in the DC/MD/VA area.
Thanks!
Shahed

:Sorry to hear that. Most knowledgeable SLK owners are going with the smaller R170 antenna and doing the R170 antenna mod. Simple internal addition and soldering of approximately 37cm of 20AWG solid copper insulated wire. Here's the info from another forum. Cost of the R170 antenna through MB parts ranges from about $65-$80. The R170 antenna looks much better and has equivalent or better range than the factory antenna. If you choose to go with the factory antenna, I have one some where.

Thanks.. I posted a message in the other thread.
Let me know if you find what you have. Can I just screw it in, or do I have to re-wire/solder something with the spare antenna that you have?
Thanks,

2012 SLK 350 Mars Red
The base for the antenna on the 09 models looks different, I bet it will not work on older cars. Also on the 09s the range without the antenna attached is better. With my 06 SLK I had to almost touch the base with the key to get it to work whereas on my 09 SLK i can be several feet away when the antenna is off.

I ended up getting the R171 antenna from American Service Center... seems to work ok... I hope it doesn't get stolen again... but, at least I'm glad that we weren't approaching the car when the antenna was being stolen!
