Performance Test SL600 (VIDEO)
I had my camera today, decided to do a take a quick video on a nice wide open straight away.

Very quick car, all we need now is someone with an SL55/65 to do the same! Looks to me to confirm sub 5 seconds to 60 and sub 10 seconds to 100 and I doubt there are many cars where you could do the same with so little drama.
This video shows how the gear ratios of the 5 speed are spaced out compared to the 7 speed on the SL500 where the revs drop less when it changes.

It was a thrill
This was the hardest I ever drove this car, it was a blast, the power is amazing, the control is amazing, it definately feels like there is plenty more power to go well past 110.

It probably is
This car probably is capable of it, but since it is electronically limited at 155 it would take some modifications to find out. Some of the performance upgrades offered on the market raise the limited speed up from 155. Maybe someone with Renntech would know the true speed the car is capable of.

196, that would be scary.
I wish my town had some sort of auto track where individuals like myself could go out and really test the performance of their automobiles, but so far I have not been able to come across anything.

I notice you hit 110 pmh in third gear.
Not that there is direct similarity with a R230 SL600 and my R129 SL SL500 ... however here is my story.
I was out roaring arround in my R129 SL500 a few weeks ago. I had shifted into 4th gear for "sporty driving" ... then proceeded to sprint up to 135 mph for a short period of time.
Since I don't spend too much time studying the instrument cluster at that speed ... it was later in my drive that I was still in 4th gear!
I realized I had done 135 mph in 4th gear. I guess 4th gear does get you up there in speed.
I don't recall hearing any excessive reving ... and I guess the rev limiter would have intervened.

Pausing both clips as the tacks are sweeping toward 1,00 rpm, then hitting play simultaneously sets off a nice race. It was fun.
SL 600 hits 100 mph ... R129 SL 500 is at 82 mph.
It is impresive how quickly the SL 600 continues to accelerate at high speeds.
SL 600 0 to 60 mph in just under 5 seconds
R129 SL 500 0 to 60 in just over 6 seconds.
SL 600 0 to 100 mph in 10 seconds
R129 SL 500 0 to 60 in 14 seconds.
Any one know their physics formulas well enough to determine the SL 600's lead in feet at the 10 second mark?
I don't know how to post links to video clips .
I'm going now to race the R230 SL 500. This will be a bit more even !

SL600s are much quicker than just under 5 seconds. I have a 355 and an M3 that do it in 4.5 and the SL600 is much quicker. I think they are also faster than my friends GT2 and the Gallardo. I definately believe Road and Track's sub 4 second 0-60 times.

Will be posted later. Sorry!
I can not wait to drive the R230 SL 600!

Neither an M3 cab nor an F355 cab will hit 60 in 4.5. M3 cabs are in the low 5's, and the F355 Spyders were tested from 4.9 (Motor Trend) to 5.3 (Road & Track) 0-60.

SL 600 0 to 100 mph in 10 seconds

hence, a = v/t
For the R230 SL600 at 100 mph (which = 146.7 feet per second), we have
a = 146.7 fps/10 seconds = 14.67 ft/sec. squared
Now, distance (d) = a/2 x t squared
For the SL600, d at 100 mph = 14.67/2 x 10 squared = 733 feet
For the R129, a at 82 mph = 120 fps/10 sec = 12 ft/sec. squared
d at 82 mph = 12/2 x 10 squared = 600 feet
The R230 SL600 is (733 - 600) feet ahead of the R129 at the end of 10 seconds = 133 feet
I think! My BS in Physics was 37 years ago.
