rear window regulator - no problem
I just want to say putting a new window regulator in isn't as bad as you might (or might not) think. I did the job in about an hour and a half (3 beers). it requires only a handful of basic tools, and a $17 rivet gun from home depot. I didn't both taking or posting pictures, because if I had, they would have looked exactly like the ones that are already posted all over the internet. The only unmentioned suggestions i'd make is to be sure you place only the top rivet in the new regulator, and then rotate the thing into place around the little clip that holds the glass to the regulator. I riveted the regulator totally in place, and then had to rotate the window glass into the clip (much harder). It was a real struggle getting the glass to budge far enough to get it into the clip and i thought i was going to have to take the whole damn thing apart. This advise will make sense when you have it all open, and probably makes no sense to those just reading out of boredom. Bottom line is this is a job anyone can do, and it wound up costing me a grand total of $85 and the 3 beers.

Is there any indication when one is about to fail?
We frequently make long drives in cold weather. I've taken to locking the rear windows so my kid's don't play with the rear buttons. My family thinks I'm nuts!
Are their any advance regulator-failure symptoms, or any way to manually roll up the window if the problem occurs?

not that i'm aware of, but my new one has a more solid sound going up and down if that makes any sense. before it seemed like it was really trying to work. that isn't much help though. there really isn't any way to inspect the parts. if it does break though, you can sandwich the glass with your 2 hands and pull the glass to the up position - which will atleast get you by for awhile.

year 2000 model E-320 210 chassis
Mine has been broken for probably 8 or 9 months, I just wedge a few hard business cards in too keep the window up... and its been holding up not noticeable to thieves knock on wood! I've just been lazy...but willing to do the job when the weather breaks hear in NYC.
My question is.......is it hard to put the window back on the clips that attach to the regulator? Also what is the cheapest price you've seen the passenger side rear regulater for?

galleryvw: What websites on internet that I could find instructions on how to fix the window regulator. Thanks. I assume the problem is rear window, never a problem with front window, right?

i don't have the link on hand, but if you type w210 window regulator into google - probably 3 out of the first 5 are threads of instructions with pictures.
the front regulator is a different beast i believe. the rear is a clip that runs up and down a pully, sort of like your grandma's old living room drapes - the front is more like a series of levers if i remember correctly. I haven't tackled that, but give me 3 beers and something sharp....

i bought it on ebay from eseller956 for $67 including shipping. it isn't an exact match to the factory part - but it appeared to be at least equal in quality. considering how often the factory part breaks i'll take my chances.

How to replace front passenger side window regulator?
Can someone help me with instructions to replace the front passenger side window regulator for a 1996 E320 sedan?
One day, I heard a loud pop when moving the window up and then it's dead. I bought a replacement front right window regulator from Importec with 4 aluminum rivets but I could not find instructions on how to replace. I also heard that steel rivets should be used. Please help.
Much appreciation!!!
