SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: SL65 vs SLR722 (yes I did it)

SL65 vs SLR722 (yes I did it)
When my friend got his SLR722 two weeks ago not only could I wait to see and drive it but I of course had to see how it stacked up with my SL65. Since he had his car a week before I got mine it was a long week waiting for the match up. Was funny when I first told him my 65 was coming the first thing he said was "we should run them". First off, I want to apologize for the horrible pictures. I had this event planned for two weeks and in all the excitement I neglected to charge my camera and had to use my cell phone (felt like a jack ***). I wanted to video the whole thing as well but next match ups I'll be sure to hit the charger the day before.
As you can see from the pics the 722 is a work of art. F••ckn AMAZING car. My friend had an 06 SLR before it and to have the 722 trump it is a feat on it's own and take it from me it does. I'm not going to go over all the amazing features of the car since I assume most of you have read articles and seen pics. I'll skip to the match up. We ran several times. 2 from dead start and 2 from a 30mph roll. First I want to say we were both floored on how well my 65 kept up with the SLR. From the dead stop the SLR definitely got out of the hole better (got my 65 seven days ago and I am no pro at launching it yet) but after the 3/4 to 1 car length jump the 65 held solid and gained up a tad. By the time we were at around 100mph a was slowly gaining but never got to even on both runs. From the 30mph roll we were dead even all though in the 2nd run I did pull ahead slightly and held it up to around 120mph.
I have to say even though our performance in a straight line was similar the SLR killed me in the turns. After each run we would continue to some twisties that took us back to the start and I could see how the 722 was glued to the road. At first I thought it might be more the driver as my friend regularly hits the track and is a much better driver than me, but when I drove the 722 I knew this was only part of reason. WOW.. what a feel in the twisties with all that power and grip. My confidence level shot up a few bars in that car. Even the seats hold you in like a bear hug in the turns.
I tried to take a video of one of the runs with my phone but it was horrible. So bummed my camera was out of juice. Next time.

Well I think that would depend on the person. I mean it is automatic and does have variable suspension settings so it could be. For me the seats were too aggressive for a daily and so was the sitting position. It made getting out of the SLR more like climbing out where as you just step out of the SL. But I couldn't bare the thought of leaving that 722 in a costco parking lot.

Where's the post saying SLR could barely beat a car 1/3 of the price?
Nice.... I myself have never seen SLR on the road, let alone 722.... only at a dealership or autoshow.

I know I know.. I had that empty feeling in my stomach when I took my camera out and it was dead as a doornail. I have match ups scheduled with the 599, Carrera GT, F430, Gallardo and a few others so I'll be sure to have that thing fully charged.

I think you will kill the f430 and gallardo and maybe the 599. The 599 does not seem to come off the line that hard. I think the cgt will be hard to keep up with based on the video roger posted and he has a fast 65 with lots of power. If you are on the street racing, I spool the car to about 1200-1500rpms then just jam the gas and watch as you pass them by.

I am surprised when I watch that video of the Carrera GT killing the 65. I have a 600+hp CL600 (similiar to the 65) and the outcome was much different when I recently raced my friend in his Carrera GT. My race was actually respectable compared to that video. In the video, the Carrera GT literally raped the 65; it seemed like 8+ car lengths, which is a horrible kill for the Benz. I say this because my race was much closer. Of course I lost, but it was only by 1-2 car lengths from 40-120ish.

My friend...
Does the SL65 stock?
If yes, I can't understand why in straight line race are both cars even since the SLR 722 has around 650HP and the SL65 604? Also the SL65 weight like 4300 pounds vs the SLR 722 3700 punds??
The SLR 722 should walk easily the SL65, doesn't it?
Thanks for explanation in advance!!

Hey Speed Thrills, what do you think?
Hello Speed Thrills,
What do you think the outcome of the race would be if you take your SL65 to Renntech and let them do the works on it. You should then have over 750 horsepower like Treynor's Sl65. Then you should be able to pull a few car lengths on the SLR 722? That would be an interesting match.
Furthermore, if you mod your 65 you should be able to beat your friends cars that you listed also.
