New Search Engine

I have just installed a new search engine called IBSearch. It has some advantages over the regular vBulletin search:
  • It's a lot faster, especially on this board, which (up until now) has had to maintain a giant search index to support 2-character terms.
  • It runs on separate hardware, so it does not place any load on the forum's database server. Members can search all day without slowing down the forums.
  • It is based on Lucene, which was designed from the ground up for document indexing and searching. Lucene is a lot more powerful than either MySQL fulltext indexes, or vBulletin's built-in search.
  • It supports two-character search terms, and it supports punctuation marks in search terms (for example "K&N", which it was not possible to search for before.)
  • It adds an "Intelligent Search" option to the search page. This returns results in a threaded way (that is, it makes it easier to find responses to posts), making it easier for you to find the posts you're looking for. The default is the regular "flat" result page vBulletin normally gives you.

If you have any suggestions, concerns, or other feedback, please post in the feedback thread.
