I never buy a benz again!

I went to get my SL service and the front strut was gone and the tranny was messed up and they covered it under the extended warranty..... BUT I need a new battery and front blinker and they want to charge me for it, they said its normal "wear and tear" and they dont cover it. I paid about 3 grand for the extended warranty and I expect it to cover everything. Also My 05' G55 brake pads are worn out so I got to get new ones and they told me they have to order it through Germany and it will run me $1000 and it wont be covered under warranty because its also "wear and tear". Its a shame you pay $100 grand plus for a car and you got to deal with this crap. I got a BMW and everytime I get it serviced they never ask questions they just get it done. I love Mercedes and there my favorite car but its a shame that you pay alot of money for a new car and you got to go through this. I better off buying BMWS for now on.

where are you located? cuz in CA extended coverage only covers powertrain... It's a bummer... you could take it to an indy shop and save about 50%... I'm with you on your thinking that my first MB will be our last.

I wasn't aware that anyones extended warranty still covers batteries and brakes after the initial warranty. I know MB covers brakes and rotors up to 2 years and 40k km's on my ML. I think 1000 sounds a bit crazy for brake pads. I was quoted 300 for a rotor on the SL. Maybe you need to come up to Canada! I had a Nissan pathfinder that didn't seem to manage 20k miles on pads and rotors weren't much better. I would be interested to hear if you have any better luck in the long haul with the BMW. I think they are both very well engineered vehicles and well built- even more so recently than a few years ago. You may be in for a rude surprise if you expect 100k BMW's to be cheap to maintain when they are 4 years old though.

CL500 and ML55
My CL included all maintenance and wear items under factory 4 X 50K wty.
But I am sure the cost was factored into the price of the car.
Change the brakes yourself- it is not hard and does not take a mechanical genius to do it. Might as well plan on new rotors as nobody will turn them anymore. The first time may take you a little while , but once you figure it out you will be doing all 4 wheels with new rotors in under 2 to 3 hrs!

It appears that you were paying too much attention to the "looker" whom sold you the policy rather than actually reading the extended warranty contract that you signed in (at least) 3 places.

Come on. Are you really that upset that the wear and tear is not covered? Only a few car company offers it free. You are complaining because it's over 100k then everything should be covered. Have you look at porsche, ferraris, or bentley. Nobody covers wear and tear. These are over 100k car also. If you are going to complain because of this then maybe you should just buy only BMWs.

If you want a better deal four years down the line then MB would have to charge more up front for the cars. So consider it a favor that they charge less than they could new, allowing you to own and enjoy a special car that you would otherwise not be able to afford!

MB's are meant for two groups of people, both of whom are in love with their Mercedes cars, 1 those who keep it for just a few years and then trade up before problems begin, and 2 those who fall in love so deeply with their car that they're happy to pay whatever to keep her going.
Each of course has plenty of money.

Just because other folks can sometimes get a Mercedes Benz car doesnt mean the company should change for them.

$1000 is.....

a ripoff for brake pads. Call some M-B parts houses such as fastlane or Autohaus and see what they say. If you don't want to put them on, find a dood independent who will and will let you furnish the parts.

The pads are not as easy to do yourself as people with the older Mercedes think. They are pressurized systems and unless you know what you are doing, you really shouldn't mess with it. Pads are going to run you $500-600 for that and labor at the best and cheapest independents.

To the OP.

Somebody is yanking your chain on those prices.
You need to shop around.

My SL55 just got front Pads from a major dealer here is So Cal.
He know I look at parts prices online before I approve work
on my cars. Normally he meets the price. And makes his margin on the labor.
So front pads on My 2005 SL55 were $ 325.00 and labor was $ 160.00.

To change the pads on a SL just pull the plug on the SBC pump and wait 10 mins, then you just have normal brakes, push out the pins front and unbolt the rears, very simple
