Compliments on SL600

I have been amazed lately about the number of compliments I have been getting on my 05 SL600. Yesterday while driving home, I was passed by a driver who put his window down and gave me a thumbs up. Today while filling up with gas a lady walking back from the store said "that is one sharp looking car". It's nice to have people appreciate such a fine automobile.

We get the same reaction from people. Our Mars Red car looks like bright red blood on wheels and people just drool when we take it out. I don't look at people in traffic, but I can see in my peripheral vision them trying to lick the car with their eyeballs they drive by. I especially love it when it's a Vette or a BMW. I love it. I wish I could have gotten a Mars Red CL.

You know, looking at this car they are absolutely right. It is gorgeous.

Talking about a color that would look great with some AMG tail lights. Black is the perfect color for that!

I love the stone interior.

Surprised, SLs attract almost no attention here, and I thought they were a dime a dozen in the US? Maybe cars are not in the UK psyche to the same extent that they are in the US.

Living in San Diego, I don't see many SLs on the road. When I do, they stand out in traffic. I have a loaner C-class and spotted another Mars red SL. I drooled even though I see one everyday in my garage (well, except when it's at the dealer). I see more cars on dealer lots than on the street. Perhaps the high housing/property tax costs in San Diego (e.g., www.santaluzresales.com) discourages people from blowing $100k on a car.

Backing up to the valet at Chateau Whistler

There is always a crowd and this is one sweet hotel. In the winter it's gods country, i rent a locker so I don't need to get snowboards on the car. I prefer the SL to the SUV ( surprise ). To stay on point, that car gets a lot of looks, people just love it. I have had a lot of compliments on it. It's real sweet.

On a related note I put on the Pilot Sport All Seasons and it handles the snow with ease. It's amazing in snow, with those tires. So much fun, now for some serious boarding.

I will look into the AMG tail lights, in Tallahassee I don't see hardly any SL's so I will more than likely have to look at photos to see them.

Stephen,

Below are the AMG tail lights on my car. Your black car will look incredible with these lights. The difference is the dark lense accross the middle of the light.

The cost is $306 per light and about 1.5 to 2.0 hours in labor charges. All in should be under $900.

Thanks for the information on the tail lights, I think I will look into that. We both have what a lot of people would die for, but we still have to improve on them. Thanks again.

Black with AMG Tail Lights

In another part of the forum I found a photo of a Black SL with the AMG Tail Lights. Looks pretty sharp!

I saw those house prices and nearly fell out of my chair. A 2,000 sqr ft house is over a million. My 3,000 sqr ft house is only about 210K.

Believe it or not, you get used to it. You have no choice except leaving. Tax rate here is also 1.9% (do the math) plus $407/month HOA fees. I feel fortuante to have about a 12000 sq ft lot. The 2000 sq ft homes have no yard. The house takes up the entire lot and what appears to be the yard is open space or golf course. Those houses were "only" about 600k or $700k two years ago. The market has been good to San Diego homeowners. Bad to would-be buyers.

Also, this particular area Rancho Santa Fe/Carmel Valley/Del Mar is one of the most expensive real estate markets in the country. It's crazy here and I suspect that it's gonna get worse.

You could get a run down shack in the ghetto (drug/hookers/police/bars on windows) for about $400k, but don't park your Benz on the street. As a matter of fact, don't drive it down those streets.

New Tail Lights

Yes, I am going to switch to the AMG Tail Lights. I will post some pics after I get them changed out.

LovinSL600, I love that Aegean Blue. That's my next color over stone.

I love black over stone also, but the work that comes with a black car (ugggh) or the thought of getting one bad detail (double uggh)

Lovin,

It's all about preference, I like the all red lenses.
Why do you like the lights so much, is it because they are AMG.

BlueSl,

It depends where you live, take one down a council estate!

I agree, it is all about personal choice.

For me, it has nothing to do with the fact that they are AMG. It all depends on your color combination of outside paint and inside leather.

On my car, you have the dark exterior paint and an all black interior. The dark middle section of the AMG tail light picks up the black interior so it looks great.

On a black car it is a no brainer because you have the dark middle part of the tail light right against the black paint and it is gorgeous.

If you told me your car was Mars Red with Stone interior I'd have to think hard whether or not that would look better than the all red lense. Same thing with a Pewter color with a stone interior.

Agreed, totally personal preference. I just think the lense looks really great with certain color combinations.
