PTE thermostat

So I did some searches on PTE T-stats and found out that they open sooner and stay open longer. Removing more heat from our hot engines is always a good thing, but I'm not understanding why it would be much different than a stock T-stat after about maybe one pass at the track.

I am definitely interested in the mod. Can someone enlighten me on a few points below.

1. Would it potentially drop intake air temps especially with a secondary heat exchanger?

2. Is the mod measurable in terms of HP gains or are we just talking, cooler is always better?

I have one in my SL55 and the car is definitely less affected by the heat, and gives more consistent power. It was a nice addition, especially in AZ!

Well I'm sold on the PTE T-Stat and about 30 days late on the MBworld group buy back in July, but I'm working on getting one now. I just don't get why it works so well. It seems to me that after one or so 1/4 mile passes, the stock stat would be wide open just like the PTE.

I sent you a PM but to paraphrase briefly for the forum, your understanding is correct: the PTE thermostat helps keep the engine cooler when running partial throttle, not wide open throttle. It won't do much for 1/4 mile times if you hot lap but it will help if you have a cool-down period in between.
