Headlights color matched
Every color in the rainbow. Thats what the front of the Mercedes looks like. You have yellow, blue, white, amber, everything you could possibly want.
Untill now.
I succeeded in getting all the lights color matched. And it wasnt that hard.
First you have the ugly amber turn signal bulb staring at you and turning the whole enclosure yellow. Get rid of that with the chromed turn signal bulb, 1156. From such companies as Xenonmods or ebay.
Then the ugly yellow side marker, which you replace with the clear side marker from anywhere, like ebay.
And replace the w5w bulb with a LED T10 (white color) from iJDMTOY, and buy another pair to replace the parking bulb. Then you have near perfect blue color match to the low beam Xenon light.
Also got the D36 LED for the rear tag lights.
Next, the factory low beam D2S 4300k xenon bulb which is the soft blue color and the mismatched H7 Halogen in the hi beam and the same H7 in the fog light has to be color matched.
I went to HIDExtra who advertized in the forum with a complete HID kit for $60.
This takes the 12v from the car and converts it to its ballast module to a
8000k HID replacement bulb. This replaces the H7 in the hi beam and H7 in the fogs to 8000k soft blue color.
This near matches the stock lows, But I want a real match, so I got their 8000k D2S replacement bulb for the stock low and dont need the ballast because the car has them already for the low xenons.
You could choose any other number and color for these bulbs, but I wanted to come close to the stock soft blue, so I choose these bulbs.
Now I have a near as possible soft blue color match for all the bulbs in the car. And bright as hell.

those parking lights are probibly alright if you install the external load resistor, which fools the error signal. But the T10 leds dont need it, its built in and there is no error code.

I want to replace both the front standing lights and the rear license plate bulbs with LEDs.
do I need the "no error" with built-in resistor for both ?

However, for the US, my look at the 2004 manual shows for the front 1156 NA and for the rear PY 21 W (1156/ 32p)...

they changed their link because they changed the kind of bulb they sell. I got the flat square led with a round emitter on each side, now they are selling different ones with multiple emitters. You will have to buy them and see if the color is right.
theres many dealers that are selling these now.

Sorry to drudge up an old thread, but I'm looking into the lighting and wanted to be sure I had the info correct.
On the Chrome 1156 turn signal bulbs, did you order Chrome/White or Chrome/Amber?
Anyone know if you're able to change the under door lighting with a bright LED? Bulb size availability to do so?
On iJDMtoy.com with the Parking light T10 LEDs - there are 3 models available, ranging 21-28 dollars. Which is the matching color/intensity?
http://store.ijdmtoy.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=T10 (Listing of the T10 bulb availability)
Thanks for the help!

His mama. Traded y0 mama in because she was squeaking.
The only issue I have with Xenon HID bulbs for the high beams is the warm-up time. Flashing your high beams is effectively out of the question, since it takes a good 1-2 seconds for the lights to come to full power.
I thought about modding the high beam with a bi-xenon and then just cutting power to the low side of the bi-xenon light, then decided it wasn't worth the trouble.

I will not be swapping the hi beams out for HIDs as I wish to avoid the warmup issue and cannot remember the last time I've used my high beams for any significant length of time beyond and flash anyway.
I will be replacing the low beam and converting the fog to HID, with matching color temps/bulbs.
My questions relate to the other supporting bulbs and matching the correct colors/outputs.
Thanks!

the chrome bulbs are amber just because that is the US DOT requirement for turn and signaling bulb color
the T10 is xenon white
You can take a door bulb out and see if they have a led to match the size

okbarnett,
Any insight on which T10 bulb looks like best choice? Turns out they offer several similar models in the color "Xenon white"

So i tried installing the LED bulbs on the side markers and the only flick on for a second then shut off. Any suggestions? I bought the one from JDM listed above. Hid fogs went in fine but the 8000k doesn't really match the stock HID so i'm probably going to switch the stock bulbs to 8000k as well.

youll probibly have to get the 8000k D2S from the same mfg to make sure they are an exact match.
The leds must not be error free. If they do not have the resistor to make them error free the car wont send the voltage. they also need to be in correct polarity, pos and neg.

ahh ok, do they make a bulb that has the resistor built in? or do i need to cut one into the harness?
I ordered the 6000k fog lights and i'm about to order the 6000k d2s bulb for the low beam but i noticed that they have a separate wiring harness for the d2s bulb on their website... do i need to get that as well or will the bulb work with the stock components?
btw, thanks for your help! These stock lights had to go.

the led has to be error free. thats all you need.
youre getting 6000 fog and d2s low, but you said you have bought 8000, so they wont match, or I dont understand.
the kits will have what you need for that light and you dont need anything to replace the stock low bulbs
