INTERESTING, SAD DEPRECIATION SL65... WORTH LOOKING AT:

190k when brand new in 2009, the SL65 can now be purchased through a wholesale dealer auction for about $135,000. thats a 33% wholesale depreciation in approximately 1 year.

Based on the below chart, wholesale dealer auction prices will dip to roughly the 100k even or even lower within the next 8 months when the 2011 debut which will probably be around july-august of 2010....... how sad... 50% depreciation in 1.5 to 2 years.

and think about this..... the 2007 SL65 was 190k new... now 2 years later, i can choose between 5 of them wholesale for around the $70,000 to $75,000 and im talking about ones under 30,000 miles..... thats insanity.

No! that's the real world. I would always buy a 3 year old car, unless it's only just come out and you want it real bad, then be prepared to take a hit.
The best cars would be from a MB dealer around 3 years old with a warranty that can be extended. The only new car I bought was a SL63, but I bought a CL65 for 70k , with 14k miles, a SL55 18 months old for 60k with
12k miles, a 3 year old S600 with 48k miles for 26 grand, yes 26, a E55 for
30k with 26k miles. It's great knowing somebody paid 150k and you have just picked it up for 60k!!

I just bought my 1st MB. I still think I got a good deal. Total sticker plus upgrades >$164k, bought it for half.

But why is the depreciation sooooo much? Is the market flooded by MB? Is the demand low because of the economy?

Yes, and yes are the answers to your question. Sound 8, very good point as well.

I stopped buying new cars about 7 years ago. The depreciation lists/prices you can buy MB's (hell, other high-end car too for that matter) is just mind staggering now. CLS AMG's are going in the $40's now, low miles, just another example. Considering the first owner paid upwards of $90K brand new under 3 years ago is sickening.

I did the same thing with my CLS and R, the R500 was going for $35K, with only 11K miles on it. I saw the original sticker listed at $62K for the first owner. Less than two years, almost a 30K hit.

I drove a new Panorama yesturday and my thoughts were exactly the same. In 2 years I will be able to buy it for half price. I bought my 06 SL65 a year ago for 63K with less than 24K on it. If you can stand to wait it is much cheaper.
