I bought a 01 SLK320 in October and starting having this issue about two weeks after driving off the lot. I looked on all the different forums and talked with some guys at the local MB dealership. My issue was that there was something wrong with the internal wiring in the radio (probably because it was 8 yrs old). The easiest solution is to simply replace the radio. You can go buy an after-market head-unit that will fit the opening perfectly and will play MP3 Cds, about $200; or, you can spend about $800 and get a touchscreen unit with GPS. Your local Besy Buy can do the install in about an hour for less than $100.
If you don't like that idea, you can check out ebay for a replacement unit, but there is no guarantee that it will work. |
