sos light

ok i just got an 2003 slk amg and the dealer went through all the buttons and functions with me when i drove it off the lot. well just recently when i went over a bump, a black lid came open around the dome light area and there was a red button inside (one that the dealer didn't tell me about). curiously i pushed it and it lit up. well now i can't get that light to turn off. it's usually on most of the time, but some reason it'll shut off once in a while. does anyone know how to shut that red sos light off? will pulling the battery terminal work? or will that cause further unforeseen expensive repairs that only the stealership can fix? Thanks for any info!

That is the telematics response system (On-Star for Mercedes). It actually doesn't even work after Jan 2008 (due to changing cellular signal requirements). I have no idea how to get the light to go off.
