as far as I see now, there is no car in the same price range which gives the coup/conv and the performance at the same time.

On the other hand, are we talking about the 280, 350 or 55 here?

Without being too specific, I'd look at BMW's also.

My sister bought a Lexus (unsure of model) nearly equal of SLK about 6 years ago. It seems like a nice enough car, but if she lets it sit for more than a week, the battery goes dead. (Done this since new). The dealer told her it had a lot of electronics in it and this was normal, and to drive it more often. Some fix?? She never told me the exact price, but it was loaded, and I think she gave 40-45K.

Actually, I was thinking about posting the same thread.
I am planning trading the SLK or keeping the SLK and getting something else. This will depend on what's the next generation SLK looks like. There is a rumar that the F1 nose might be gone. If that's true, the SLK will be a classic and I will just keep it.
In few years, there are going to have lots interesting cars coming out with the ~same price, like new Z4 with v8 and harttop conv. that will be a killer.

One of the friend who has a SLK55 is going to trade in for a M6. Or he did already.

I do have few cars in mind, but I really want to hear what other SLK owners think about it.

u hit that right on the mark.. that F1 - like nose really is something.. it makes the SLK car even looks better than the SL from the front view..

.. basically i was askin cause i have that 3 year itch.. i dont wanna get rid of my SLK cause this was the first car that i really modified and spent on.. as it is, ive had it for 2+ years and ive only put 2837 miles on it...

.. i kinda wanna get another car, not to fix up tho.. just one of those nice cars that's pretty much set and ready.. maybe a Cayman S or that little elise??

dieselsrule, I don't know a lot about Lexus's but having the battery go dead if it isn't driven for a week is not normal for a modern car. There has to be an abnormal drain somewhere. I've left my SLK unstarted for 5 weeks a number of times in winter storage and it always started up just fine.

Two years and only has 2837 miles on it, and you are thinking about getting another sport car. My dear friend you are jocking, right?

That's say to be more conservative. Over the two years period, the SLK depreciation is ~16k in first year then ~3.5k the year after. Putting into numbers, each mile that you drove is about $7. I am just all about the $$$$ sometimes, my bad.

3 year itch? I am itching every day, hahaha.....

Actually, I looked into Cayman s and Lotus when I was doing shopping. Unless you are going to track every weekend, you don't want the Lotus.
I think it's pretty common people will say that you can't afroid a 911 so you go for the Cayman or boxster. That's major reason why I picked up the SLK over those 2.

However, I have hard time to pick up an upgrade at this point.

yeah bro.. i really cant believe how days just went by quick when i realized that ive had the car for over 2+ years, less than 3000 miles, and a Service A light..

.. wacha all think of the M3?? that thing is just gettin too popular w/ the guys i hang out with.. if it isnt the G37, it's that darn M3 and that's prolly why i started to itch for a new car..

.. dont get me wrong, i still wouldnt trade my SLK at the moment..

1. 335i convertible, can get very quick with minor mods.

2. Cayman S I suppose, that can be costly with a few checks on the options

3. Pre-owned 997 S, prices are dropping fast due to the updated one

4. Wait for the new Z4, looks pretty good so far, hard top with a turbo

5. New M3, but that's going to be a dime a dozen like all M3's before it

I'm thinking about Jaguar FX. It is in the same $60K price range. Very innovative interior, seems good quality, fast, confortable, very unique.
