I confirmed this August. Have not decided yet until I can drive the car more that at the roadshow. Dealer says they will have a demo in December. We shall see.

I contacted Smart USA yesterday and I was told the warranty is 2 yrs/ 24k miles.....

Seems very short to me. What other car has a two yr. warranty?

The MPG wasn't super either:

2007 std: 40 / 45
2008 std: 33 / 40

New EPA MPG is 34 city, 40 highway, far better than the Yaris and Fit.

Warranty is weak at 2/20, but that's because of the collapsed US dollar. Factory warranty extensions will be available as options.

Isn't the warranty in Europe 3 years/unlimited miles?

Yeah, but Yaris and Fit both seat 4 or 5 in tight squeeze. I was expecting the mpg to be at least in the 50s. 34/40 in reality probably going to be around 30/35 which is digustingly low for such a small vehicle.

While it is true that the vehicle looks different and cool but, in about a year, the coolness will fade away like the Mini and the New Beetle and what you left with is an impractical car with 1 more year of warranty.

Actual Mileage

The USA today test driver got an average of 40 MPG is his driving. Mostly suburban. Another tester got 47 MPG going 60-65 and sometimes 70MPH. This was over a 300 mile trip.

Unless they bring the diesel here, this car is really not that great a deal. Why not get a vw golf or jetta diesel, have twice the car, and get 50mpg? The 70mpg diesel smart would be a great little car... but gas

Yah, I saw the Smart CDI at my school in Rochester. Pretty cool little car. They should have brought the Smart ForFour over in Diesel, stupid to only bring the petrol ForTwo. I really want one still though

The for four is no longer in production. It was cut about two years ago. Wasn't selling well at all in Europe. Would never sell here either. The for two is the only car Smart produces.

Seems we're going backward. I once had a 1986, 190D 2.5 manual. (5cyl Diesel). A consistent 38MPG in a good sized five passenger car.

Well, The EPA 2007/2008 ratings system is much more stringent so the mileage ratings for the new cars is really not comprable to the older ratings. The achieved mileage in the new smart may be much greater than what its rated for under this new system. Also, the emissions (CO2 and other noxious compounds) will be much lower than your 190d could ever hope to achieve, regardless of mileage.

Last night I got confirmation of January delivery of fourtwo Passion including VIN number. I called the dealer (Louisville) and he indicated that on Monday he can give me the exact date. I was hoping for an Indy or Cinci dealer but not at this time. I plan to drive it around for a couple months and then decide if it keeps it's slot in the garage.

The manager of the dealership in Louisville called today and among other things told me that there will be dealerships in Columbus and Cincinnati but their scheduled opening is behind Louisville and they didn't want to delay delivery of my vehicle. Monday they will have exact delivery date. I'll put up some photo's when I get it.
