just got an e-mail from smart

Dear smart USA Reservation Holder,

smart USA has an exciting announcement to make! The very popular and sporty smart fortwo BRABUS model will make its debut in the United States beginning in February 2009, and you will have the opportunity to be one of the first customers to own this exciting vehicle.

All current reservation holders who have not yet been invited to configure their vehicles will have the opportunity to request to convert their current reservation to a smart fortwo BRABUS model beginning Thursday evening at 5pm PST, October, 23, 2008. This special offer will only be available for a limited time, and only a limited quantity of BRABUS models will be available, so be sure to check your email on Thursday, October 23, 2008, for model information, pricing and reservation instructions.

So the unanswered question is: does this BRABUS model have the weenie 71 HP engine, or the proper 98 HP turbocharged BRABUS engine?

I suspect it's the former, which would be a massive disappointment. We got some BRABUS versions of the old smart in Canada.....which had the 40.2 HP diesel engine.

The good news is that smart USA will be offering a Turbocharged version in a while, called the BRABUS Sport......

There's still no word if we get the "all mouth and trousers" version here in Canada, or the eventual Turbo version.......

I think the email to the depositors said that it is "under development", which I would guess means it might come in the 2010 model year. The thing is definitely developed, it is probably undergoing US testing for emissions right now.

Peugeots were sold in Canada and the USA between 1959 and 1991.
