Awesome Post. I knew something like this was out there, but haven't really bothered to look for it. Although the stats indicate the M5 wins everything, I thought that the E55 had better stopping power, something akin to 550 Maranello or 360 Modena?

Very nice. Thanks for posting that. Although the M5 edges out the E55 on numbers, I bought my car for the interior comfort as much as the performance. I would love the availability of a stick and clutch though. My little VW Golf TDI is standard and while not powerful (especially with a blown turbo), the stick makes it a real kick to drive around town. I'm actually "slower" in the Benz with the slushbox.

Here's a good link regarding the stopping capabilities compared to a Ferrari 550 and other cars:
http://www.fantasycars.com/sedans/HT..._amg_w210.html The E55 will out stop an E39 M5 by a few feet, but the M5 is quicker by most other metrics: http://www.fantasycars.com/sedans/HTML/bmw_m5_e39.html

The W211 picked up where the W210 left off... Both E55s should command respect from any car on the road, this was the W211. ![]()

Amazing the E55 is quicker than the SL55. Considering the SL55 costs about 50% more and only has half the usable space, it's hard to imagine, even with a convertible roof to lug around, why it's slower.
On second glance, the SL55 accelerated quicker but took more tarmac to do it. Possibly driver error with a bad launch.
