Ricky I think you should be more considerate of the fact that some people might fear buying a Benz when seeing all this. You may in fact create buyer panic and that is something working against the brand.
Only qualified technicians have the experience to know which bulletins are relevant and which ones are unimportant. Casual forum readers have no such training and on face value it looks like the cars are minefields.

That's not my intent, I just post it as information. That's how it should be taken as.
I've had many dealers casually tell me that there is no fix for my car for a particular issue, and they suddenly become aware of a resolution once I can help nudge them in the direction. I don't blame them for just saying that there is no fix, how many people do you think come in a day for the same problem. Probably a lot cheaper and easier to say 'we don't have a fix for that' or 'we can't find that problem' YMMV though

Not really, Dealers get paid to fix, repair, attempt repair, throw parts at, cars under warrenty!! Mb pays. Dealers dont get squat to tell people to go away..they want to fix ur cars...they just dont want to attempt repairs that are not authorized, recomended, or approved by mb----then they hurt themselves...and dont get paid by anybody.

Poor Quality
I support the notion that lets buyers see how dismal MBs quality has been...and even more to the point....what a low interest they have in solving the problem....I have a 2001 E55, went to dealer to see about 2006 model...asked about the quality issue....sales guy said there were none...I responded by pointing out that this issue has been acknowledge by DB....at least in the Wall Street Journal.....his response was that if quality was poor why are they selling so many cars....and PT Barnum had the answer for that...

Well, I'll say this. I just traded my '02 for an '06. The '02 was pretty much problem free except for an occasional (and rare ) glitch in the factory COMAND that blanked the sound for a second or 2. Had more trouble sorting the blower than with the car itself. The blown '02 was faster than a stock W211, not much, but faster. The '06 has been delivered to a dealer this morning for 3 problems, only 1 of which is not an actual problem with the car:
1. Tele-aid non-op due to inputting the wrong registration code by the delivering dealer. 2. Long hesitation to engage drive after backing out of my garage from a cold start. I mean, a thousand one, a thousand two, a thousand three, and CLUNK, I'm in drive.  3. A distinct stumble or hesitation from a start, and sometimes at the 1-2 shift as well. Don't know guys, but 50K or (in this case) 100K, and that should not happen. I'll hope for the best I guess.

I was at 550 when I dropped it at Silver Star yesterday.
 Hope all is well today. The SA said he has seen several 55's come low on trans fluid which would explain the slow reacting trans?? Maybe a Monday car.

Tranny delay in finding a gear- "Well, we tried it cold this morning and it only hesitated a second or 2" ----In other words, we have no idea, wait for it to break and strand you. Stumble or hesitation on accelerating----"Maybe it's ESP cutting the power. You know this thing will cut the power if you're spinning the tires" Again, no clue. I knew I should have kept the blown W210.

I just got a new service request for a recall in the mail today.
Service Campaign #2006-030011 Software for the engine control unit needs to be upgraded to correct a potential malfuntion which could render the secondary air injection pump replay inoperable thereby affecting the proper operation of the secondary air injections pump. Just letting you know!

Warranty Coverage Addendum
Today I got this in the mail (2003 E55):
Warranty Coverage Extension (SBC/Electro-Hydraulic Brake System Hydraulic Pump) The following applies to all model year 2003-2006 E-class, SL-class, and model year 2006 CLS-class vehicles equipped with the SBC/electrohydraulic brake system. The Mercedes-Benz New Car Limited Warranty coverage on the hydraulic pump within the SBC/electro-hydraulic brake system is extended to 10 years with unlimited miles from the vehicle's warranty start date. Other components of the SBC/electro-hydraulic brake system are not covered by this warranty extension. This extension of the Mercedes-Benz New Car Limited Warranty applies to these vehicles regardless of ownership. All of the other warranty terms apply to this extension. Great. I've had great luck with the car, but this is a massive red flag to me, along with the long list of TSB's. Good thing I've got the extended warranty, but this list is simply too long. Carrera S, anyone? |
