Predictions - E55 Versus Gallardo?

Thanks a ton for the welcome to the site (chiromikey, ROCKETW19, Big Ape, 305-E55, cicbenz, MB Forever). I am slighly embarassed to say, but not photos (the car is coming out of winter storage in a few weeks). So, I will do one better than some pics of the E55; expect a video of a 2006 (stock except K&N's) and a 2006 Gallardo e-gear (he is also talking about getting a M5 over the next few weeks).

Following is a video of a Gallardo and Z06 and my take is that the results will not be too favorable for the E55. The Gallardo seems to have an unreal initial pull (you will see) and runs really close with the Z06.

The Gallardo driver has my accelerometer and has managed to run a 4.1 0-60 time (my best is a 4.095) and has indicated that he "can do better".

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/6...86002bafb4.htm

How do you think I will do (straight line runs from various speeds up to 120) ? I actually think I am better off running him from a dead stop than a roll...

Thanks!

The Gallardo being all wheel drive will have a better initial hook up than the E55 due to no wheel spin.

I have seen videos of the Gallardo losing to an M5, so....

Driver driver driver is my guess.

This coming in from left field...

Doesn't matter who wins the race, in the end the Gallardo is a much cooler car!

I like to think of the E55 as the hammer of thor. It works, but it's messy. Pretty much anything else can be considered a dentists precision drill. It's accurate, but it hurts like hell to live with.

From a consitency standpoint you are correct but keep in mind they are not like the WRX's and STi's where you can wind-up to redline and dump the clutch. They Gallardo comes out good but they will never run consitent 1.65-1.75 60' times like the WRX's and STi's.

The net is I have to have "game on" coming out of the hole. But, if I do I think it will be very close - the question is at what point does it start pulling me?

LOL! Big time on your comment. There is an automobile "hierarchy" and the
E55 is definitely below the Gallardo. What was really humbling is last year we were at a restaraunt and my E55 was parked next to his previous car - F360 Spyder - there were people swarming to it (a Ferrari in MN is not all that common).

I might as well of had a Ford Fusion...

Good original point, though.

MNM5ETR; You should be able to beat the Gallardo from a dig and also from a low roll. I have raced one from a 60 roll and I pulled on him pretty good.I never got to race one when I was stock but I believe you will edge him out, good luck and go make us proud

I recently posted a thread of a race with a Gallardo. He got a very slight jump from a dig but I was pulling hard after about 100'. Yes, the Gallardo is all wheel drive but that can also deter from a good start because the power is being shifted to all four wheels. Once the E 55 hooks up it's all over. Now, after 150, it's probably going to be a different story.

My E55 is bonestock and so is my Gallardo 6sp. I don't see any way that the E55 would take the G. The E is obviously fast, but it weighs too much and develops less hp than the G. If you guys that ran your cars against Gallardo's actually beat them I'd have to believe that the Lambo driver either didn't push it hard or didn't have a lot of experience with it. The other possibility is that I have a unreasonably slow 06 E55.
Don't take this as a dig against the Mercedes. If I could only have one car the E55 would be the one. It's easily the finest car I've ever owned. It just doesn't feel anywhere near as fast as my Lamborghini.

Dragtimes.com is your friend. Looks pretty obvious the E55 can be the quicker car in the 1/4 mile:

I am in agreement with your assesement big time on what will happen.

The "run" will likely take place later this week (Thursday) for the G owner is on vacation. Hopefully, I will have the video cam with and will try to post it.

the dude driving that lambo that was attached to your front bumper was another example of a dude driving something he couldn't handle...we should have invited him to the karting track as well

however - you will have to chase more lambo's next time I am around!

greetingz,
