66hp
Is this going to cost $11,000 like the RennTech headers, exhaust&ECU?

Renntech does not offer a long tube header for the 63 that I am aware of anyway. Maybe they are working on one, but as of a couple weeks ago all they had to offer was the shorty system. I have seen some dyno figures on their shorty headers and to say I was not impressed would be an understatement. The dyno sheet I saw showed a gain of only 23HP with the shorty headers and ECU. The reason I am on top of this is because a guy here in Chicago that I have been talking to is keeping an eye on my Evosport build and the 63 Renntech is currently working on so he can decide where he wants to get his work done.

I'm not doubting the HP gains, long tube vs shorty is no contest. My question was whether Evosport was going to price these components outrageously like Renntech.Hopefully not as I would like to mod my 63 but not for the cost of a small car

I would contact Brad or Bob at Evosport directly for prices, I think you will be pleasently suprised at their prices and more importantly the overall quality. I spoke with both Renntech and Evosport for a several weeks before finally making a decision to go with Evosport. I am very happy to say I made the right decision, and I would recomend that you do the same if you are interested in doing some mods to your 63. Furthermore Renntech started work on a CLK 63 Black Series about the same time as Evosport started on mine. Mine will be done tomorrow with around 60HP more than I started with. I have been following the Renntech project car just out of curiosity and peace of mind and to date they have made 23HP. The choice should be simple. If you would like to PM me I would be more than happy to give you my number should you want to talk in further detail.

I think Oldgixxer meant Brabus not RennTech. I know Brabus has long-tube headers + ECU package for the 63, and they claim it adds 55 HP but the price is out there $15k

Yes, the header, x-pipe is very expensive. Realize, for those two items we have well over $4K in cost of material. That does not include the labor to build them (which we do in house one by one, yes they are hand-built here in the US with high-quality material). Then factor in the 80+ hours of engineering time to build the first set (yes, they have engineering behind them, rather then just bending pipe to fit). Then add some margin (yes, we DO have to make some money or else we will just shut the doors - I know that in all of your jobs - your goal is to make money or you would not be owning these cars).

BTW, it is 56whp, 65crank hp. Just to be clear.

And we believe we have now made an additional mod that is worth at least another 10whp.

The header is not $11,000 though. It is substantially less, but still expensive.

First see above. Next realize that we are at 65hp compared to their claim of 55hp (have to quote apples to apples - crank HP to crank HP). This is KEY to note as I believe that the other tuners are all quoting crank HP as well, not wheel (we always quote wheel as it is a more REAL number even though it is lower).

Software and header will be much less then the 15K number. Plus we have a few other mods that will get us close or all the way to the 500whp mark!

thanks
brad

Final pricing will be worked out within a week based on us needing to put numbers to the whirlwind of development we just finished. That is not too far off though.

Thanks
Brad

Will these hp numbers and gains be the same for the E63 and CLS63 models or are there difference in the OEM software on each model?

The #'s should be able to carry over to the other cars. We will be doing some testing soon.

thanks

Brad, thanx for the detailed explanation much appreciated;I agree with your reasoning.I know all too well how difficult it is to weld pipe,I do that for a living and can appreciate the crafstmanship&skill involved with a Tig torch. However, thats too expensive for my budget.

Oh wow

Any chance you can post the A/F ratios?

ha ha - good catch. Not yet. Sadly in the ever competitive world of tuning, people are cut-throat. Giving the A/F right now would be giving too many clues to our competition. We and Powerchip have way too much R&D invested right now to give it away. After we do a few more cars and the magazine article comes out, I will post much more info.

Notice smoothing though - 0. That should tell you a lot about the tune.

thanks for understanding,
Brad

Yes, I noticed the 0 smoothing, that is why I asked to see the A/F. I was amazed on how smooth the final power curve is. I would LOVE to have my power curve to look like that. Good job!

Ah, when you can, I would like to see how the TQ curve is also. As we all know, power sells cars, but torque wins races.

Brad, I've been following the 63 modding developments closely from all the different companies out there and it seems like you guys are doing great. However, as you may have noticed, I'm not a big fan of Powerchip, and therefore wanted to ask a few questions regarding the mods without software:

1) How much gains can be expected from headers and X-Pipe only (no software tuning)?

2) What is the Airbox mod? Is it bigger air boxes? If so, how much is it and what are the expected gains would be from: headers + xpipe + airbox?

Feel free to PM me if you like

Thanks

Good stuff. Most impressive to me are the gains down low....the kind that you can use all day, every day.

I am drooling in anticipation of seeing the A/F and torque plot.

Drives: gets very poor gas mileage.
It's too bad there wasn't a post-tune dyno performed with everything except the Dymag's. I'd like to see just how much HP those wheels unleashed.

wheels = ~15-20whp based on calculations on this car and experience on other cars, including McLaren's own testing on SLR.

thanks
Brad

The next gen SLR is rumored to have Dymags stock, from the factory.

Any idea on pricing of these items? I am interested in an exhaust and ECU package for my E63. Possibly headers, pulley, etc... also. Thanks.
