*** VRP'd CL65 goes 10.97 @ 129mph!!! ***

I know I should be posting this in the other forum, but, all the drag racer die-hards hang around here..

Just wanted to share the latest info with you guys...

Marko's CL65 just went 10.97 @ 129mph this past Saturday (Oct. 18th) @ the US41 track in Morocco, Indiana.

The ECU is still in the same state as it was on the last pass a week ago where he ran 11.0's @ 127.6mph . We know there is more power left on the table once we dial in the tune for the new intercoolers. Marko just wanted to get some more testing done with the car so he went for a couple of passes..

In the below video he was lined up against a Renntech SL65 tuned car. The car's performance speaks for itself.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEQqc5nFIlI

As of right now, this car is ECU + intercoolers only. More tuning, and other goodies coming soon!!!

Awesome times indeed..................but that car in the picture does NOT have "ECU + intercoolers only". I've worked on many stock CL65's and never seen 4 cone airfilters pointing all over the place.

That was a pretty sad ET & trap for the SL65 RENN

But holleeeee helllll 129 TRAP w/out NOS is plain fierce

I'm talking to Vadim about adding these cooling mods to my SL since our Intercoolers/airboxes are identical, the 600's should see some nice improvement as well..

Those filters add a lot of volume....Those tiny pee holes in the airbox are not good enough, she will breathe better with those scorpions...lol!

If Vadim or VRUS reads this....quick question.

So this baby is sucking air from the engine bay??

Is the old thinking of sucking hot engine bay air not valid anymore??

Just curious...is the hood vented or something.

I've seen other pic's & it has flashing/shielding from engine, basically encloses the lil crab claws off then pipes fresh air over 'em

Thanks everyone!

Marko is having a blast with the car. Watching that 4,400lb++ car pull off sub 1.7sec 60ft and crack the 1/4mile in high 10s is just mind blowing. We are just excited about what it will do once the MAP sensor issue is resolved and we adjust the tune.. If I had to guess, this car is making over 700hp... Marko never dyno'd it, and wasn't too interested because he wanted to take it to the track first.. We still have no idea how much power its putting down right now.

---------------------------

Not YET.. but.. SOON..

Trans will be left alone unless Marko tells me its slipping or causing problems. We have the Bullet Trans upgrades available if it's needed.

Sorry.. I took it for granted that people knew what I was inferring.. The intercooler upgrade REQUIRES that the intake be done. The intercoolers are so big that the stock airbox setup has to be scrapped.. The only way the intercooler package is available is with the Scorpion Intakes. I guess the proper thing for me to say was VRP ECU + VRP intercooler upgrade Kit.

No.. heat exchanger is stock.. Pump is stock. Only mods are ECU + what you see in the engine bay.. Lots more coming though.. stay tuned!

You hit the nail on the head... intake is a necessity!

No choice Jim. There is no room to go downward with the pipes and place the filters anywhere. You have to point them up.. The only way to get the volume of air is to put 2 x conical filters on each side otherwise there is just not enough airflow.

On Marko's car the heat shielding was not fabricated, but it is something that I am discussing with him.. Vadim did the shielding as a one-off on the SL65.

The SL55 weighs 4400 odd lbs SL600 4500+ the CL65 is more like 4800lbs which makes this feat all the more impressive, these mods on an SL65 should knock another couple tenths off from weight alone..

EDIT:
I got (2) sources
Cars direct....
CL65 Curb Weight 4,890 lbs.
4,890 lbs.

Carshowroom.com/autotrader
Dimensions:

Weights: gross vehicle weight rating (kg): 2,635, gross vehicle weight rating (lbs): 5,809, curb weight (kg): 2,240 and curb weight (lbs): 4,938 damn those are fat-bastad's

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
2008 Mercedes-Benz SL SL65 Exterior Features and Specifications
GeneralBase SL65 Curb Weight (lbs) 4555

If you had these mods above on lighter SL65 she'll deff be a 10.5x @ 130+mph!!

Damn... i didn't realize they were that heavy!! That means with Marko in the car its over 5,000lbs!!!

Did I tell you that Marko's best 60ft is 1.61!!! (if I remember his phone conversation correctly)..

He said on that 10.97 pass he only managed a 1.69 60ft and the car shutdown the power hard in 2nd gear so he is pretty confident he can rip a 10.70 once he gets used to the power delivery..

He has only had a few runs with the car at this level so once he gets some more practice that car will break all kinds of records..

Just for giggles.. I wonder if we can get a single digit ET if we throw some Nitrous on it.. (Marko.. Are you reading this? )
