fwiw, I've used both. I prefer the Dutch made Vreds over the Japanese Falkens. The Falkens wore more quickly. The Vreds were excellent in the wet.

The only thing with the Vreds is that the tread design makes it look like you've mounted the tires incorrectly. I actually had a few kids point at my car and tell me I was a dummy.

The was a huge thread in the Corvette forum a few years ago and they all swore by the Vreds.

Both are sticky tires but I'd say +1 to the Vreds......

I don't know how is it on Mercs, but on my volvo Falken tires perform better than any pirellis. I would get falken 452

Have had the Falken's. A little slippery until they warmed up, then they were nice and sticky. The rears lasted only one season, but that includes a couple of days on the road track. The fronts I'll easily get another season out of.
Can't comment on the Vred's.

I've got the Vreds in 20's and they seem okay so far. Quiet and good grip. I hear the sidewall is VERY strong also, a plus for thin tires.

OK, you've got 2 votes for Vreds and 2 votes for 452's.

Mine is for the 452's. Have them on my BMW DD, love them.

I've had the Vred's on my stock rears and still do. I personally like them alot. They have a good amount of grip and they're cheap.

Had several sets of 452 and only one set of Vreds. Vreds all the way. Much quieter and pretty sticky. Vreds get my vote!

I'm slammed a few inches all around and it seems fine. I talked to a guy that was slammed TO THE GROUND almost, and his took YEARS before it started wearing. Oh, I'm talking about the Vreds by the way, 20" 30 and 25 series very thin . They are also non directional so you can flip them also , or atleast the sessantas are. And as far as everyone I've talked to with falkens, like them, but are switching to the Vreds.

I had the 452's on 20's (for a week before I sold the S4), on the stock 18's (the seem to hold up well), on 20's (Lexus GS, didn't keep em long so didn't get to see the wear). So basically I have no idea in terms of wear how the 452 perform.

You can flip them but that's not gonna do any good really. The vreds have an outside and inside side, so really if you're staggered, you can only go from left to right and vice versae and not diagonally.

Local? They aren't that easy to find but you can start here: http://www.performanceplustire.com/p...678#prodAnchor

There's a guy in Chatsworth that seems to have the best prices. He's on eBay. Do a search for Vreds on eBay and see if you can link to the Chatsworth place (I can't remember his name).......ya, here it is: Canoga Park (not Chatsworth): AFS Wheels, 818-340-6181

Huh, I never considered Vredestein tires. Interesting.

What about Sumitomo HTR Z III? Anybody have experience with them? They seem to be around the same price.

EDIT: I just went through all the reviews and road tests on tirerack.com, and the overall impression of the Sumitomo HTR Z III is that they are a cheaper alternative to the Mich PS2 which seem to be the gold standard for our cars....and near equally matched in performance and bettered in longevity.

To the OP, if you are looking to save money, check these out. I might be going this route....I could use the extra $600 saved over PS2s...

However, if you are going the 19 or 20 inch route, Veds seem like the best way to go...

Every time I've tried using Falken tires (on like 3 different cars) the car got a slight pull to the right that you could never get rid of. I finally gave up on them.

the Vredestein Ultra Sessenta Tires are simply awesome tires.

I have driven on just about every tire and model out there over the years, both on track and on street and these are the best tires I have used, and driven, with the one exception of the YOKOHAMA RS 's , which are stickier, but not as good in the wet, and dont last as long either..

Literally I get one guy a day ask me on the street where I got the tires, and what kinda they are, and that they luv the look..

even the merc dealers ask about them constantly.

great tire.. and less expensive than most..

so i went with the falkens... the vreds have the best looks but being able to rotate the tires (dismount and flip) was the deciding factor.. ill try the vreds next after i install the kmac kit... picked em up for 875 shipped to my door cant beat that

Why would you use either of these....

on an E55? I'm sure they Vredesteins are not awful, but the Falkens are pretty darn close. Noisy like crazy, and the ride quality==eeech.
When there are so many quality options out there--in quality brands--why would you choose this stuff? The cost differential is nominal, if any. Do you really want to compromise your last/first contact with the pavement?
Just don't understand. Sorry.

Have you driven a car with Vreds? Seems like there are a lot of members with them. Must not be as bad as you think, IMHO. I've had no noise, no problems and they stick like glue. Great in water and the tread design looks nice. I guess to each their own. Why aren't Vreds quality? Just curious. Just because something costs more doesn't necessarily mean it's better quality.

Do your research on the side walls! The V-reds are not very agile. Your vehicle is heavy, side wall is important. Personally, I would look into Toyo's! If your set on those 2 companies, I would go with the Falkens.

I suppose it's my nature from...

buying and selling and trading cars so often (and from buying and seling take off wheel sets), It's just too hard to explain this other stuff to people who don't stay "in the know". When people call about your car you're sellling and you tell them it has new Vredisteins, they say, new whats? Falkens, huh? When you tell them it has new Michelin Pilots, usually there is no resistance. They know you have the best , or one of the best. Those of you that have some of the latest Michelins know what I mean. Perhaps the Vreds are fine, I just don't want to invest the energy in trying. I wouldn't put Falkens on my 330k 15 year old Volvo shop wagon if they were free.
Guess I"m just getting old.
