PS2 Virgin...

Well...getting PS2's all the way around on the SL65 (F255/R305) and eventually on the 55. What's your opinion on road hazard warranty? I've never gotten them on any of my previous tires, but...PS2's aren't cheap.

I have two alternatives in buying the PS2's:

1. Tirerack but they won't cover the rear 305's with road hazard protection.
2. Local vendor that will cover all 4 tires with road hazard protection.

Option one...tires only price are less and no sales tax are the positives. Road hazard protection is $48 (I think) per tire but only the fronts. Option two...local, sales tax charged, price of tire includes road hazard for all four tires so tires only price is a bit higher.

Option three (just to throw it out there)...get Toyo T1R which I've used on the E55 with no real complaints and pay $400 less.

Going through tire rack saves me about $40 but no road hazard on the rears. I still could not get any road hazard at all and save another $96 (since going through local vendor they include the the price of road hazard into the price of the tire)...

I am not so worried about price but the whole concept of road hazard protection...

Yup...test fitting on another SL65 is being done on Monday to make sure no rubbing is found with wheel and tire combination.

I stick with the Schwab, they've always taken care of me. I run Proxes 4 tires and I don't have any complaints.

You cannot go wrong with PS2s. They are the best street performance tire made................ expect to spend a couple of extra bucks. I have had them on numerous vehicles and they are tough to beat.

They are the "M3" of the tire world. Not the best at any one thing, but very good at everything.

I replaced my front right PS2 at least twice because of bubbles in the sidewall after hitting potholes. I wish I had purchased the warranty. It would have saved me quite a bit of cash. Not worth it for rears, IMO. You wear out rears so much quicker than fronts. And fronts get beat up more than rears.

Jon,

I have had nothing but trouble with PS2s. Bubbles, blow outs, unexplainable premature wear, you name it. I don't drive my cars hard either, I drive them like they were my children.

Never again will I buy a PS2. I have PZeros on my SL, same sizes you mentioned. So far, so good.

going from p zero to ps2 rears felt like i had gained 50HP!!!
thast how bad my p zeros were...they wear out soooo fast and the grip they give is meh..not sure if they came out with a new make and if it is any different

have t1r's in the front now...i must say the p zeros felt that they handled better comapred to them

hmmm

Zod,

The pirelli's are not great tires, they are good tires - so far. I've had Pirelli's before and they weren't great before either. I'm going to go through these and do the Bridgestone RE050a's next. I have the RE's on my E55, and they are good tires as well.

I am not going through any more frustration with PS2s, I don't care about 50hp. PS2s are $420 each for the rears in 305/25/20 and I already bubbled one of those on my previous SL600, without even hitting any bad potholes! One blew out on my '03 E55, with like 5000 miles. Had them on a former Audi S4, wore out in like 7500 miles... with NO track days, excessively hard driving, nothing.

Pirelli's are on special now at tirerack for $350... for that price it's not a bad setup.

Well you have to remeber that running large rimms and thin soft tires is not always the best combo

They are expensive yes....but if you street race in a 55k then any traction at low speeds is a blessing!

You would not be doing that in 20...so yours is a different case

man am tempted to try mich CUPS

have ps2 rears and t1r front...am such a mess ...might give the t1r a shot at the rears and see b4 i give my final verdict

bottem line if you are happy then thats all that matters
