Advice on what car to go with 2005 E55 or 2007 E350

Members, I am looking for some thoughts. I am considering two different cars. The first is a 2005 black on black E55 AMG with 34k miles on it, and the other is a 2007 White on Black E350 with 24k miles on it. I know the differences and the bells and whistles that come with the AMG. I am looking for someone to knock some sense in me. Speed and price aside, would it be a good idea to get a CPO E55 or CPO E350, both of these are within 4k of one another in price. Let me know your thoughts...Please be kind

BTW I have a 2006 E350 and a 2009 ML 350.

The E55 AMG without a shred of a doubt would be the car to go with

You'll get much more of a car at a rediculously low price.

Since you are asking... E350 all the way. E55s are garbage. They are slow, guzzle gas, and break constantly. Not to mention they are ugly. Stay away. Far away.

Have you driven the 55 yet? If not, you should. Then you'll delete this thread

Agreed- get the e350 if you are asking this type of question. Or research the cars then come back here.

its not about the specs of the car or price, its more of a sensible decision of...no stay away from an 05 because its too old, they suck, or wow the millage on the e55 is high... that's what I am looking for. I have always had the standard E series and branched out this year to get the ML.

You say you're choosing between a 2007 E350 and a 2005 E55 and yet you already own a 2006 E350.

Going from a 2006 E350 to a 2007 E350 doesn't make any sense to me.

But the E55 is a lot different. Either get the E55 or just keep your E350

If you're going to get an 05 E55, the CPO will only last you till next year granted it's a 5 year. So the E350 will have more warranty coverage. I just picked up an 06 E55 and have no regrets as my needs were met. What are your needs?

There is no way i'd get a plain E350 regardless of year, price, mileage. It looks like you found a good low mileage E55. I'd take it in a heartbeat, otherwise stick with the 06 E350 you have now. You won't be going anywhere moving to an 07 E350 imo.

So what were my needs? I needed a car that has a lot of power yet able to put a car seat in for my newborn. This car makes people do a double take and the look should hold out at least 1 more generation. I knew going into it this was a car for straight line performance and not something to take to the track thinking of beating out GT-R's or 997 TT's since the handling is far from the mentioned.

Good point jng204 and 220s. Here is the skinny, I like the dual exhaust and the new rim set of both of the mention cars, but I do not want to mod it and mess with the warranty of the car. San Antonio does not have reliable mod shops like the west coast does. Background on me, is I like to get new cars every 2 yrs max... I get board easily and simply want a new look. I too need to put a car seat in the back, even if I did have the HP I doubt I would use it (ok maybe from time to time :o) )

Well if you want a new look the E55 or any W211 won't make that happen. A W212 is a totally different story. E55 does have more of an aggressive appearance and stance though. But between the 2 get the E55 hands down. This car will put a smile on your face at WOT every time.

Try the Audi S6 or 5 Series for room to put the car seat in the back with some space left over. Can't say either car is or isn't reliable though.

I would be more impressed with either a E class CDI or Bluetec over a E 350.
Do I understand correctly you have a E350 and a ML350 and this purchase would be an addition?

And it makes some sense since the OP said he doubts he'll ever really use the hp. But the diesel will have ample torque for real world daily driving. Plus there's the mpg benefit.

I agree.

If the OP just wants a "new look" every two years and doesn't care much about the benefits of an AMG, then get the 07 E350 for the newer look or just wait for the 2010 E350 for a completely different look.

If anything, I think I'd search for a better deal on the 350. Seems that the AMG really is not your thing. Its not even a consideration for us car nuts, alot of use would take a NON-CPO 55 over a 350 any day of the week.

The tough thing for me is the prices, the 350 is just too close to the price of the 55. Even with them being 2years apart. Both CPO, and both in the same mileage bracket, with only 4k spread between them price wise...that's a tough pill to swallow for me!

I'd even get a 2003 E55 before getting an '07 E350. Around here those 350s are everywhere. No offense, but everytime I see one I'm hoping it's another 55 or 63 just to be let down with that feeling of "Oh its just another 350"
When you see a 55 it's like
