I've kept my E55 for the trips to the Mall and family dinners out, but the
GT-R keeps me grinning from ear to ear every time I get into it and flick the left gear shift paddle once or twice to hear my Y-pipe!

GTR is def a car I'm thinking about down the road...want to keep my SL55 though as the lines and design are outstanding on the SL, and it can be modded nicely as a great hard top convertiblep; always nice to have one vert around for those perfect days...

I had a student at Summit Point Raceway with a new GTR; instructors drive the cars initially and all I can say is...wow! Most of you guys driving this car on the street are not doing it any justice whatsoever...take it to a track event and really get to "know" the car!

Yes, its really fast. Launch control on it is so effortless to use, doesn't feel like a drawn out process like in my SL63; you can actually use it on a whim at any light.

I'm looking for a tune though that'll make it a bit easier to drive in traffic while switching lanes. Maybe have the engine itself make more power on its own before the turbo's build enough boost or something. Right now its scary to try and do fast lane changes when starting from a stop or very slow as it wont get speed fast enough.

All this hesitation means you REALLY dont want the GTR , Scoop yourself up a
Z06 if you truly wanna mess with the big boys .

And if you got nuts buck up for the ZR 1 and you will be on another level IMO .

Are you serious malak? Or just typing to type? But I do kind of agree with you- I'd take the n/a z06 beast over the gtr anyday personally. But the z06 is kind of "played out" at this point.

Z06 plus an after market S/C and it's all over!! Or Zr-1 but they are still selling at a premium..when the dust settles from all the hype the aftermarket will ramp up for the GTR and at the same time prices will drop significantly for both GTR and Zr-1 is my guess...lets face it the days of the supercar are drawing tighter and tighter with federal sanctions on fuel consumption, forign oil, environment, and alternative propulsion...big engine powerful cars are going to be out there at bargain pricing at some point...

That's interesting, my friend says the same thing about his. He says it basically feels relatively sluggish at low speeds, until you get the Turbo's to spool up, where it obviously hauls. I can even tell when riding in it.

Enjoy the ride.

P.S: To the guy who said Z06's are "played out" You can't be serious? Cars like the Z06 aren't "trends", it's like saying AMG is played out.

If the ZR1 tanks in price (maybe when the C7 vette is out), that will be a great car to get. Simple mods like pulley swap, bolt-ons, and tune and you own the streets and track.

Even in this nasty economic climate and with GM's issues- I couldnt find a dealer to budge off sticker. Most were still asking for 5-10k over on the ZR1. Hell I can get my wholesaler to steal an F430 for less. Is a Ferrari faster, fck no, but what car would one want not just today but tomorrow, next year, and down the road?

Maybe your friend should take it out of AUTO and drive in MANUAL like it is meant to be driven?
In Auto it just shifts up to 6th as soon as it can and it is not a car to drive around town at 1200RPM like a big boofy '55 Kompressor, waiting to kick down! Drive it at 2000RPM in any gear and one flick of the paddle and you are on close to full boost at 3000RPM- it gets scary almost immediately.

Doesn't help if you are stuck in Los Angeles traffic and trying to switch between lanes. This is the one time where I would say a real manual clutch would be better as you would have more control.

Agree, but you can control the Auto mode with the throttle too. Press a little bit more rapidly and deep and you get the gear drop. Ive been trying this out and its working a lot better. Of course the paddles are the best to go but us Cali boys have traffic issues.

It's like members who say things like "that's car's old news" or conversely "the next big thing." They're posers in the braggart sense and NOT enthusiasts...

Well he's kind of a "cruiser" at heart (I know, a mismatch for this car) who likes to really step on it from time to time, he doesn't even use the Paddle's much, if at all. I think like was stated, driving around in L.A traffic can really subdue the car from its peak power region. That goes for many cars of course.

All I know is the car does a great job of giving you that "Jeykll & Hyde" feeling, totally easy-to-drive and "normal" feeling when you want it to be, and turns into a monster when you want it to as well.
