Problem w\ Dynamic Seats..Relays Constantly Firing w\ Ignition On..Feedback?

Guys & Gals - Interesting new problem that developed a few days ago on my '06. When the car is running or even ignition on, you can distinctly hear relays constantly firing in sequence on both the seat backs, especially if you put your ear up to each seat back.

My car has the Dynamic seat option and Keyless Go.

Any thoughts what it might be? I was going to disconnect the battery to reset all the electronics on the car.

Luckily the car is CPO'd, I have owned it for 4 weeks and it has been sitting at the dealer for two! Not a great ratio, love the car just not crazy on how many times and how long it has been at the dealer.

Thanks in advance.

Does it sound like a "click-click......click-click" that alternates in the seats? Mine does that, too. Is that not normal?

Yup correct! I drive my car so infrequently, that it seems like it is a new development. I am not sure why the relays would constantly firing? I am sure it cannot be normal?

I have dynamic seats and keyless go also and haven't heard any clicking sounds like that; and as far as I can tell everything is in working order. Doesn't sound normal. Hope you get it worked out.

Hmm.. it's been doing that since I bought it. Thought it was normal! I guess it will go on the list of pre-warranty expiration repairs I need to get done.

My 2004 does it too. I just think it's Ze Germans making it happen.

Guys - I just spoke to the Service Advisor at the dealership and he said that this is NOT normal behavior. That there is a vacuum leak in the seat circuit and said that essentially the seats are trying to inflate to a certain pressure and due to the leak, never reach that pressure hence the constant firing of the relays.

So back to the dealership this week for the car.

If any of you are experiencing this issue, please note! Eventually the relays will burnt out as they are NOT meant to be always firing and will lead to your Dynamic Seats not functioning properly.

Hope this helps.

Dynamic Seat Failure...cost $3,000 - $4,000..plus more issues!

Wow…
Just got a call from my friendly and very helpful Service Advisor at the MB dealership. The pump for the Dynamic seats has failed, and requires replacement just to be safe the dealership is also replacing the Dynamic Seats Control unit and all the lines…cost $3,000 - $4,000. Thank goodness my car is a CPO car. I made a thread about this last week, but did not get much traffic, but wanted to close the loop with the reasons for the Dynamic Seat issues I was experiencing.

BTW....I have owned my car for 5weeks, of which 3 weeks it has been at the dealer for warranty work with costs in excess of $5,000.

If you guys hear constant (relay) clicking in your Dynamic Seats, please do not ignore it, as the pump is failing or failed.

Regards,
Yasin

Is there any way to disable the dynamic seats? (i.e. like the entry function for the steering wheel going up and down)

Mind asking your SA about what they plan to do with the control unit and lines after they are removed?

If your car is under warranty still, I would not wait any longer in having them fixed as they will eventually burn out the relays and more than likely lead to other issues. If your car is no longer under warranty, it would be tough to justify the cost. I am unsure the cost of the parts by itself and the breakdown for the labor. But it might be something to look into. It would bother me to no end, having such a cool feature and not being able to use it.

Jerry - Trust me I am *VERY* pleased that this is not coming out of my pocket, as I do not have the funds to even think about covering these repairs. $5K is certainly a ton of money.

What is your car in the delaership for?

Well they are warranty items, so evidently they will be keeping them or sending them back to MB in Germany for further diagnosis (reason for premature failure).

Mine aren't clicking...as far as I can tell I usually have the stereo up pretty good. However, I was driving from OKC to Houston and after driving around OKC all morning and not turning the car off for 8+ hours I was almost home when the seats all of a sudden deflated and "dynamic seats off" flashed on the dash display. Scared the crap out of me. They came back on shortly but since then it feels like the right side bag is not inflating as much as the right?? Its not making me happy, I have a Chrysler aftermaket warranty but I don't know if that covers it. I'd like to be able to find an easy way to take a look at them and see what's up. Anyone have a clue what the guts of these seats look like?

My take is to take your car to the MB dealership and let them diagnose the problem and give you an idea of cost (parts + labor). I am fairly sure they will diagnose the problem at a very low cost or even free. You need to call someone at the Chrysler warranty support line and ask them if the seats are covered.

It's all good man. I never owned a vehicle with the dynamic seats so I was just wondering.

And if the techno-bang-wizardry of the seats is anything like the auto position function of the steering wheel (have had 2 that died without warning), I would probably leave them in the off position once the novelty wore off.

Yasin, it was there for a new rack and pinion, I had it for all of 2 hours before all the fluid let go in my driveway. This was with less than 100 miles on the clock. haha. Kinda weird though about the rack.
