Are you planning to run that and no tune? If so, your car will pull power. It will make more grunt, so it will feel faster. But it will fall on its face at over 3k RPMs.
Don't do a pulley if you don't want to do a tune and cooling. You can hold off on cooling and do just tune but pulley alone is a waste. You in SD? Where is the pulley? The price is ok for a RennTech part.

its a small mild pulley --- I expect moderate gain through out the powerband without a tune -- of course a tune would be best but I dont think i will shell out all that cash.
mild pulley should not fall after 3k rpms -- this is not the 180mm!!! from all the forums I read -- it seems like this pulley is fine without tuning -- the larger pulleys sucks without tuning --- and of course for best results tuning is a must. |

I would listen to Jangy, makes sense. If your car is set at 14psi max thru ecu, thats all you will get. ecu will pull timing with larger pully, and may bleed off excess boost your new pully makes while adding more heat to intake air. Either tune or open up exhaust I say.

Alright --that is what i was thinking -- instead of spending all that $$$ on a tune -- I can get some short headers.
tuning = more power headers = more power and help with heat soak & PSI since these cost about the same amount -- Headers would be my 1st choice -- I will get the pulley if its good -- try it out and see how the car truely responds and if I need more power ---------> In the meantime I will look for a good deal on short headers.... I dont think I will be able to pass up on a good deal. |

I wouldn't do any of these mods without a tune... You will never get the full potential of these mods without one....

Dude, I have no need to lie. I have been there and done that. You will NOT get gains throuout. If you do an honest dyno, you will see the 3 - 6k RPM zone become sputtery and HP dropping off. It is not a rumor. BUT, everything gets changed with the header or TB, since they compensate. All I am saying is a pulley 168mm or whatever on a stock car , especially an '06 will SUCK.

but I disagree with your blanket statement. I ran the 168mm pulley on my car without a tune for a few days, and it felt great. Noticable pull throughout. As I recall, YOU even ran without a tune, and you were asking for proof verifying that a tune was worth it.

Haha - thanks for the other viewpoint --- I will just wait and see --- if it runs bad -- which i doubt -- then, I need to rush my plans for a header...

for $700, you wont find a better increase in performance for the money. You'll love it. Is James going to install it for you? I havent seen his new shop.

Well- I have not seen the pulley yet -- should see pics of it soon. Most likely followed by a drive to the shop for another look.
I have not spoken to him about installing it -- i will ask next time i chat with him. How much should the install cost?? Do I need a new belt for a 168mm pulley??? |

You must have money to burn... $700 for a USED pulley is ridiculous.

Well- that is what the shop is asking - I have not attempted to neg. the price... I will wait until I see some pics 1st.
I should be able to knock some $$ off the $700 asing price -- I have seen some other members selling used pulley for muc cheaper. I just need to wait and see -- the shop should be contacting me soon -- if not - there will be others on the market.

If you are going to do headers, why are you afraid of doing other mods?
Headers gets pretty deep in the engine bay to make happen.

I do not desire other mods -- I want to keep it pretty simple -- bolt on and off mods that are good value for the $$$.

If you remember, even with an early tune (before Renntech accepted or figured out TQ managment), your car was pulling timing at the top end. RT said it was due to cooling and I said it was something else. It turned out to be the ECU.

I don't think you could get a RennTech pulley for less. Some will argue as to its value, but that is your choice. Fact remains that a RennTech pulley will run more $$.
