LSDs and drag racing opinions...

Sorry to bring this up again as I know it's been debated in the past, but I'm still very confused as to whether or not a Quaife LSD will help with my launches, and improve my overall 1/4 times. I've read that some did not notice any improvement in their 60' times after installing one, however I don't know if these people were already cutting good 60's prior (ie. under 2 sec). Whereas for someone like me, who is only managing 2.3s 60's on street tires, perhaps I would see some improvements?

Just trying to think about it logically, but I would think a LSD would help for sure. Maybe I'm not understanding it right, but if you get both wheels to spin instead of one, then you essentially double your contact patch?

Again, I can see if someone is able to cut really good 60' times like 1.8s on street tires, then already there is little room to improve and therefore any benefits of a LSD in straight line would be greatly diminished. And I would think to achieve those kind of 60' you would be right at the threshold of spinning your tires, but not, and therefore negating the need for an LSD. But for everyone else who isn't able to quite master that fine touch of not spinning at the start???

i can tell you that Hooleyboy cuts 1.6xx 60's in his 480whp (dynodynamics) C55 without a mechanical LSD. he said the best thing was putting certain fluid in it (don't recall what kind) and his MTs.

IDK about all that but I wouldn't advise taking LSD to try to improve your drag racing skills

i dont think the lsd will help much with your launch. both tires are able to spin anyways, i know im able to lay down 2 patches of rubber on a burnout.
the lsd will make a difference in handling and u would notice it on the circuit.
if u want to imprive your 60' time, you should invest in some drag tires. that would make a huge improvement for your launch.
my best 60 on streets was a 2.065 or so and after getting DRs my best was 1.735. there is still room for improvement there as well!

our cars do put power down to both wheels at launch. no way I could have cut consistent 1.71's on street tires with a one legger. so put me down as one that unfortunately didn't see any gains from the quaiffe.

drags help sooo much! I run the nitto's on the street and strip and that is all you need!

Ok, thanks for the replies. I was hoping I could take the easy route and have a LSD solve my problems, but it looks like that's not happening haha.

I wish I could run something like nitto's for the street and strip...but I think I'm limited in choices with 19" wheels?

No. You could easily run 17- or 18-inch rears (maybe even 16's?). Just need a taller sidewall to get to approximately the same overall diameter. More sidewall helps anyway, as it grips much better on the launch.

you can do 18s with a 265/40/18 MT which is slightly taller then stock. I use Nitto 555R 305/35/18 which grip insane on the street and are fairly good on the track too.

you could do 275/40/17 MT radial on a 17x9 or 8.5 wheel. or you can go the 16" route and do a 255/50/16 MT. 16s will need to be custom made by either CCW or Bogart to clear brakes. Bogart does 6"s of backspacing on an 8" rim, i'm not sure of the CCW specs.

1.567 60ft with no LSD in my car. very consistent 1.6's. Get some ET Streets Micky's. If your road racing then you will want the predictability of a good LSD. No doubt they are good to have. It just wont help that much for drag racing.

I guess like anything else there is room for debate on this.

try some Nitto NT-05's I have them in 275/30/19 and they handle my 580rwtq pretty good.

drags are the easy route.
just buy 2 smaller and lighter rims and drag tires.
throw them on at the track.
bust out a good launch!

much simpler than installing something like an lsd.
