Mercedes Benz E55 Kompressor + Headers ?

We have been busy doing alot of developement on the mercedes benz range. We have been working closley with a company in devolopeing a set of headers for the E55 kompressor range and naturally aspirated range right up until the current C63 range,i will be posting this developement as we progress with it.We have here a 2006 E55 kompressor we basically ran it up on the dyno dead stock,it pulled a healthy 309rwkw's reapeating this figure 3 runs back to back, the runs were done in 4th gear.We then fitted a set of headers resulting in a healthy 334rwkw and a healthy torque gain. The vehicle was amazing to drive on the road, lighting up the tyres at 1/4 throttle with ease and the drivability in the low end and mid toirque was incredible, owner had a smile from ear to ear after the first drive. We are doing the mods in stages and logging the results as yet we are yet to tune this vehicle followed by a pulley kit if the owner wants more, the aim is 500 hp at the treads. We will also be testing this vehicle with a full exhaust as we are devolping one for it,will repost in this thread once the testing is done.Another thing i will mention is these headers certainly bring the growl out in the mercedes benz v8 engine without making it sound cheap or loud

Heres the run on the dyno before headers

http://www.youtube.com/user/sonnymad#p/u/52/6sqydTyOmJY

Heres after the headers were fitted

So is a custom downpipe (post-header) needed for these?

The headers come with the cat and the down pipes which butt to the factory flanges in the middle of the car just after the brace, the secondary cats are deleted

I cant see why they wont fit the right hand drive, they are readily available to be shipped, pricing is is follows

Headers $1495 (hpc coating is $370 extra, highly recommended)

3inch Down pipes and mettalic cats $1400

The system will bolt striaght upto the factory intermediate muffler to the original flanges, also comes with the bolts and flange gaskets.

So you delete primary cats? Or is it optional?

They look similar to the Kleemann's. What primary size did you go with?

For those of you that don't spend anytime on youtube. Sonny has been around for awhile. I believe he said it in his post but they also do pulley & tune. You will have to talk to him about the size of the pulley & the tune. These headers were priced at 1500 back when I first talked to him almost a year ago. The hp that he is talking about is without a tune and stock exhaust. Sonny correct me if I'm wrong.

This is looking exactly like the system I have been waiting for. A complete system--headers, downpipe with cat, complete to the factory flanges at the resonator. A system the diyselfer can install without trips to a muffler shop for chopping/welding, etc. Does your system have bungs for all 4 oxygen sensors? Will it cause any check engine codes to come up? Would you entertain a group buy?

Dang, these almost make me want to go through another header install. For anyone contemplating doing these as a DIY, the following will give you a pretty good idea of what's involved:

Thats correct, this was with the headers and down pipes only, later we did some tuning with powerchip and made another 13rwkw's bring it to 347rwkw,we are entertaining the idea of puting a pulley on this E55.

Hi there,

The 02 sensor bungs come welded on,and this setup will not cause the check engine light to come on,we have installed many sets, the test cars has done 10000km's with this setup & had the headers on there for lmost aa year now.

Sonny do you have any plans on making a full length, or "long-tube" set of headers?

We did toy with the idea,bu we ended uo going the shorty's for 2 reasons,

1 - Ground clearance with the long tubes

2 - The shorty's have good size pipes and collector,as the idea was to get the gases out of the engine as quickly as we can, reudcing cylinder pressure and temperature, freeing up horse power.

The key to these headers are the 3inch collectors, being a forced engine, you have to exit the gases away from the engine asap, any headers which retains the same size pipe as stock will vitrually doing nothing for th engine.

For the guys who wanted to see the down pipes, heres some pics of a E55 i did this week, you can see the down pipes and placement of cats, though in this case i had to install a intermediate muffler as the previous exhaust fitter chopped them out and threw the muffler out.

Heres also a shot of the stock E55 kiss pipe

Man I wish I had waited before I got my headers....and I had waited ages before getting them as I was hoping for something like this to come along...

Ugh! O well....

That setup / kit is the business.

I was wondering about the purpose of the small diameter tube connecting the down pipes near the resonator? Is it an equalizer of sorts or just a brace?

Thats what we call the "kiss" pipe,it equalizes the gases,if you look at the picture of the stock system,it also has one
