MPG, What's your story?

Hi Guys,

I'm sure this has been discussed here before but I am very interested to see what you guys have to say. A couple days ago I was rolling on empty and filled my tank to the brim with 92 Octane. I reset my trip meter to see what I'd get as far as MPG on a full tank to empty. Anyway, I checked the numbers and I'm getting average 8.6 MPG in city driving. I was careful not to beat her up, and for the most part drove like a normal person with the occasional WOT (cant help myself, you understand). What numbers are you seeing? I'm not heavily modded

-LET Tune
-Eisenmann Sport
-Res Delete

(I have been rolling around on 20in Monarchs but I'm not sure how much the weight would affect MPG's...)

Thanks for your input!!

P.S. Godfather, if you read this, sell me your Forgestars!

11.xx mpg. I reset my trip everytime I fill and that's the number. I drive very conservatively in comfort mode. Thought I'd try Sport mode to see if starting in 1st would make a difference and it was 10.xx. I do have a sprint booster and didn't know if that made a difference so I took it off. Halfway through the tank now so we'll see. Don't expect anything higher than 11 though. Best I've seen is 12.xx. I pour 94 everytime too. Oh yeah it's all city driving. I get on the highway for about 5 miles a week to and from church that's all.

I get 8.6 MPG when I get after it. 10.3 when I'm not (which is fairly seldom) & 18.6 driving highway @85mph set on cruise control.

I got mix about 15MPG, 60% freeway and 40% local.
One time I drove round trip to SanDiego, I got 19MPG with 91.Oct
I have stock 18" rims, maybe 20" is the problem...

I drive 100 miles a day to and from work, 70% highway and get 19-22 MPG if you can believe that. I drive *relatively* conservatively as we have tons of speed cameras here but I do occassionally put the boot to it.

Different engine and tranny but I combine about 15-16mpg on 93. Miles wise it's probably about 70% Highway 30% city.

16.8mpg and rising over the last 12,xxx miles. I drive 14 miles to work on a highway so that helps. I drive it really easy with the occasional burst. City driving kills it as does WOT.

Hahaha I know right...Makes you wonder if you're going to run out of gas warming it up...If you get 10mpg, but never move, what does that mean...

Since buying my 03 with 50K miles on it, I decided to make a spreadsheet of how many miles, gallons, mpg, etc I get. I just got through my first full tank of gas (91 octane) and the computer read 13.3 mpg. For this full tank I only drove city. I want to see how well I'd do on the highway.

Thanks guys for posting. It is apparent that I'm running rich. I am almost on empty and since the "reset" I'm at 7.6 MPG. I'll post the pic today. Can anyone tell me thoughts on why?

What is your average mph that shows up on your display? Do you idle alot or let your car warm up before you drive? I think it's dumb that the counter includes time spent in Park or Neutral. I averaged 7 mpg during today's rain when it took 5 minutes to travel 3 blocks. Stop and go traffic will kill your gas mileage.

The computer isn't accurate. It counts idle time and while you're parked like cahiil55k just said. It does get a more accurate reading the longer you let it go without reseting since it does average the numbers. The way I do it is I make sure to fill the tank all the way and reset the trip. Next time I fill up I just take how many miles I've driven divided by the amount of gas I just put in. Also I write the number of miles I drove on my receipt so I can have a record of it. Got price, gallons, miles fully documented That little compartment next to the glove box is filled with receipts Don't forget to reset the trip again.

Drives: people crazy.
I'd like to see a correlation between:

1) Avg MPG

2) Avg rear tire lifespan

For some reason I suspect those of you averaging single-digit MPG also average 5-9K for rear tires. Not that there's anything wrong with that!!
