Close to Perfect

In addition to our own Jake Stumph who recently reviewed this tuned AMG monster, The Drive's senior editor, Jonathon Klein, also got a chance to drive the Mercedes-AMG C63 GTS that was tuned by CarBahn Autoworks. What "caught his eye" driving this freshly tuned car was how close to perfect it was while negotiating corners. It stuck to the ground throughout the drive without any hint of drama.

Steve Dinan

Steve Dinan is the man behind the amazing work that CarBahn Autoworks is known for. Despite the tuner not being a household name, Dinan has attained quite the fame in the past few years for tuning ground-breaking BMWs for over 30 years. His cars are known to offer comfort, razor-sharp precision, and neck-breaking speeds. He left BMW in 2015 to focus on CarBahn Autoworks where he plans to work on more cars.

Modest Power Boost

At the heart of this CarBahn-tuned C63 GTS is a slightly upgraded twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that produces 674 horsepower and 666 pound-feet of torque. This is a substantial increase from the factory-delivered 503 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. The extra propulsion can be felt once the throttle is pushed near its limit and the power is quite manageable.

Performance

This AMG C63 GTS maintains a surprising speed across narrow tunnels, long sweepers, and tight turns like a supercar. Very few sports cars can make a turn with the brutal directness that this tuned Mercedes has. In the words of Klein himself, the performance is just "unnerving."

The Sensation

To a speed enthusiast, CarBahn's C63 GTS delivers exactly what it claims. Its capabilities are unveiled in the harshest of environments. Klein had the opportunity to drive it along the inner valleys of Angeles Crest Highway. The car shouted and wiggled in its own unique way, presenting evidence that it was clearly in charge. The experience was pure emotion as the sensation of speed got delivered right into the Alcantara-lined cockpit.

Price

The Mercedes-AMG C63 S is priced at $76,000. The standard GTS package adds an extra $21,890 and, this is without the lightweight Forgeline wheels and tires.
