Beware of Johnny Duong - I got scammed!
If anyone knows Johnny Duong in California please get in touch with me. I have his mailing address, business address and everything and I will take legal action but I'd like to track him down myself first.
I sold him a set of 4 Lowenhart rims and tires for $2500 plus shipping and all I got in exchange were 4 money orders for $625 that have been cancelled. Man, I hate stuff like this.
Any info would be appreciated. I am calling his local polie department tomorrow. I will also check into whether the post office (it was a COD delivery) can help since COD comes with insurance...
Thanks,
Sergiu

This kind of thing really ruins the trust and good will that generally prevails here. Some thoughts for you:
1. Did you receive payment by US Mail? If so, contact your local postal inspector and advise that you were defrauded through the US Mails.
2. Since this is an interstate transaction, contact your local FBI office and make a complaint.
3. Ditto your local United States Attorney's office.
I hope this helps.

Sounds like he gave you a fake name...
If your last name was Duong, which sounds like "dong" you wouldn't name your kid John or D1ck, now would you?
That's like D1ck Trickle or Melvin Johnson or D1ck Butkus, etc.
Johny Duong does not exist.
Will not be easy to find this creep.

I thought money orders were like cash as well, apparently not. I will know more when I get the copies of the cancelled ones in the mail, in a day or two.
The guy seems very legit - he emails from an address at calwaste.com which is a waste disposal company. I called them and he is supposedly a manager, the receptionist says she knows him and he is a real person. He lives in Oakland, CA (not sure if I should post his address here) and drives a 1999 CLK (according to him) - anyone in the area that could potentially spot him?
What should my steps be? I went to the post offce and I have to go back with the COD receipts, that is insured so I should be able to get something back from them I would think. In case that fails though:
- contact the US District Attorney? For the whole country or for Oakland (as you can tell I know nothing about the legal system)
- contact the local FBI office
- contact the Postal inspector
- contact the local Oakland police
He did call me after he received the wheels and I was away for the weekend and didn't call him back, I received the money in the meantime so I though it was all fine. Even if he didn't like the wheels he shouln't have committed mail fraud and whatever other fellonies. Now he will pay... Hopefully
Thanks for all your support

Is this the outfit? Whoever it is, give a call to the owner/president and explain how their email, computers, etc., was used.

No it's actually this one: http://www.calwaste.com/
I did call and spoke with a "Monique" who said Johnny wasn't there but she knows him, he is a manager etc.
I'll call again before starting to dial the authorities.

It could be there is some problem with the wheels, real or imagined in his perspective, and when you did not call he went to the money order folks asking what he could do since "this guy won't call me back", who told him to stop payment. I sure hope you can talk with him--guard against assuming you have an adversarial relationship at this point and it may work out for the best. Maybe the shipper botched something? Best of luck.

Well, he didn't say anything in his message and did not get any emails regarding any problems with the wheels... I did email and call him yesterday and so far no contact from him so, I'd say, it doesn't look good. We'll see, I'll keep posting updates here.

You can at least sue the guy since you know who he is and his address.
I would deffently contact a Oakland Police adn then keep calling back for follow up, unless you keep calling they will not do anything.
I would also contact and FBI and keep follwing up.
I would aslo contact District Attorney for Oakland keep following up.
Since you did COD, postal service is responsible for transaction. I would files the claim with postal police.
You should also call the bank and ask them what you should do about cancelled check.
They might be able to do something as well.
You should also file a police report with your local Police Station.
I hope you get him. I am a power seller on e-bay and hate when sh*t like that happens.

Sure you will get the money if you sue.
Once you get the judgement if the guy files bancruptcy he is still obligated to pay.
Every time he gets a job court will get the money from his paycheck.
If he ownes any property you can take that.
