Mercedes-Benz C-Class: AGILITY SELECT Modes

Mercedes-Benz has taken the w205 C-Class to a whole new level, and then some. With the AGILITY SELECT feature, driving has become simpler, faster, more luxurious and comfortable. This article will help you understand the AGILITY SELECT feature provided in your Mercedes-Benz C-Class w205.

This article applies to the Mercedes-Benz C-Class C300/C400 w205 (2014-Present).

With the flip of a switch (located on the center console of your Mercedes-Benz C-Class), the AGILITY SELECT feature allows you to quickly and easily choose from one of five pre-set drive options: ECO, Sport, Sport+, Comfort, and Individual. When an option is selected, alterations to the engine, suspension, steering, transmission, and electronic features are made. Therefore, each mode activates exactly what it implies, and it tailors your drive depending on your mood or preference. Below you will read each option broken down, so you can personalize the way your w205 handles.

AGILITY SELECT Modes

ECO

ECO drive mode is for the w205 owners who value low fuel consumption. Through a start-stop feature, this mode shuts off the engine when it's not needed (i.e., at traffic lights) to save fuel and reduce emissions. The vehicle will also enter a "gliding" mode. Each time you ease off the accelerator, the vehicle will use its own kinetic energy to "glide" along the road and disengage the engine, making for a smoother as well as more efficient ride. Upon engine restart (or cold start), the crankshaft sensor will select and ignite the cylinder with least resistance, which will further reduce fuel consumption.

Additionally, the 7G-TRONIC PLUS transmission will engage earlier gear shifting, modified seat and rear window heating, as well as specific climate control settings to optimize for the lowest fuel consumption possible.

SPORT

The SPORT drive mode is designed for drivers who want enhanced agility on the road as well as on the track, and better handling during hard turns. A noticeably stiffer suspension is also available in vehicles armed with an AIRMATIC suspension. Behind the wheel, this mode will exhibit a more sensitive throttle response, a more smoother consistent ride at high speeds, and more dynamic handling. Also, the 7G-TRONIC PLUS transmission will shift at higher gear points, enhancing the vehicle's acceleration.

SPORT+

In conjunction with AIRMATIC suspension, the SPORT+ drive mode boasts the sportiness (and "rugged" sensibility) of your C-Class even further. First, the ECO mode's start-stop function will deactivate, allowing you to exert greater control over your vehicle's engine. Additionally, you will feel a firmer suspension and an intensified drive system for enhanced coordination, overall improved handling as well as performance.

COMFORT

COMFORT mode is the standard drive setting. When the car starts, this mode is activated as the AGILITY SELECT default. Also, it is designed to optimize fuel consumption through the start-stop function. With 7G-TRONIC PLUS, the transmission always starts in 2nd gear (as opposed to SPORT and SPORT+ mode which start in 1st gear), allowing for an earlier upshift and smoother acceleration. Overall, this mode optimizes fuel-efficiency while adjusting the handling and ride comfort.

INDIVIDUAL

This INDIVIDUAL drive mode offers w205 owners the most ride customization. With this mode, you can personalize the drive settings—such as steering, suspension, transmission, and fuel. Simply input and preset your driving selections through the center console controls, and active this preferred mode when you see fit.

Common Questions

What is AIRMATIC?

AIRMATIC is the w205's air suspension system. In comparison to the standard spring setup, this semi-active air suspension delivers optimum operational safety and sensitivity to increase traction. It also minimizes suspension noise and vibration over rough terrain. AIRMATIC is available on all C-Class models

Common Issues

Pre-Set Settings Cannot Be Disabled

Once you alternate from one AGILITY SELECT drive mode to another, the default COMFORT program will automatically be restored. Unfortunately, this cannot be disabled. But a different drive mode can be selected quickly through the center console switch.
