Mercedes-Benz C-Class: How to Replace Rear View Mirror

As a simple tool for all drivers, the rear view mirror is designed to keep you aware of the cars behind you. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class mirror is more than a "simple" tool. It was designed with elegance and useful features for convenience as well as effectiveness, so replacing it with a new one requires all the more care.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class was meticulously engineered and constructed for excellence in safety, performance, as well as luxury. Not to mention an incredible ride with excellent handling. Equipped with a cutting-edge braking system and roaring engine, this all around high-performance vehicle is not without the most basic accessories, which includes the rear view mirror. If your car's rear view mirror needs to be removed due to damage or you want to upgrade your rear view mirror, follow the steps below to learn how to install a new one.

Materials Needed

  • Trim removal tool
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Crescent wrench

Step 1 – Remove the mirror housing

  • With a trim removal tool, carefully pry out the housing clip above the rear view mirror.
  • Slide the clip out, and set it aside.

  • From the side of the mirror's plastic housing, use the trim removal tool to carefully pry out the cover.
  • Completely remove the cover, and set it aside.

Step 2 – Remove the mirror module

  • Unclip the small plug located on the rear side of the mirror module.
  • Use the trim removal tool to pry out the mirror module from its bracket.
  • Remove it, and set it aside.

Step 3 – Remove the connectors

The yellow and blue connectors above the mirror module are wired to the mirror. They must be detached before the mirror can be removed.

  • Use your trim removal tool to unclip the plug from the yellow connector.
  • With a flat head screwdriver, pry out the bracket of the blue connector. The connector and bracket should be connected.
  • Pull the blue connector's wire harness from the clips, and let it hang freely.

Step 4 – Remove and replace the mirror

  • With a crescent wrench, rotate the metal mirror mount counterclockwise.
  • Once the mount is loosened, gently pull out the rear view mirror along with its wire harnesses.

Install the new rear view mirror in reverse order to the steps above:

  • Snake the new wire harness through the headliner.
  • Tighten the metal mirror mount with your crescent wrench, rotating it clockwise.
  • Connect the wire harness to their appropriate locations.
  • Re-install the mirror module.
  • Snap in the mirror's plastic housing and clip.
