Mercedes-Benz E-Class and E-Class AMG: Exhaust System Reviews

A performance exhaust system can make your Mercedes-Benz E-Class sound like the beautiful beast it already is. When searching for a new exhaust, not only is the sound important, but style, performance, and build quality is as well. Let this guide help you make an informed decision.

This article applies to the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and E-Class AMG w212 (2009-Present).

When thinking of a luxury vehicle, you might tend to think less about how it sounds on the outside than how it sounds on the inside. But with the w212 E-Class' powerful engine, you might want the car to both feel and sound just as powerful. An aftermarket exhaust can create a wave of difference in both sound and style. In some cases, it may even bring an improvement in performance. Some systems are simply designed to open up performance, while others focus more on refining the sound. For the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, you'll find a limited selection of performance exhaust systems, which mostly cater to the E63 AMG. Even if you don't own an AMG, you'll still be able to find a system that can have your E-Class sounding like one.

Brabus is a tuning company that works exclusively on Mercedes-Benz vehicles. With that kind of exclusivity, you can expect them to supply quality products and modifications. Brabus' sophisticated sports exhaust is designed to fit seamlessly on the E-Class, and you'll find some enhanced sophistication in performance as well as sound. On startup, the Brabus has a very low and quiet growl that roars to life in mid-range RPMs. Once you reach higher speeds, you'll find it to be no louder than the stock exhaust. Also, the performance improvements are better than most other exhaust systems. Electronic valve control is available, but it is quite expensive. Overall, the Brabus Sport Exhaust is recommended for best quality and fitment of any exhaust system for the E-Class.

Remus Sport Exhaust

Price – $1,598

Performance – No significant improvement in performance

Sound – Sporty sound, but not too loud; sounds like a stock exhaust at higher speeds

Build – Axle-back with four round straight tailpipes

The Remus Sport Exhaust is for those looking to add a more subtle sound to their car without having to dive too far into their paycheck. The tailpipes are smaller than other exhausts and aren't slanted, which means they stick out a little more than the stock exhausts. It's made out of stainless steel, and has a black ceramic coating around sections of the canisters as well as pipes. While you won't get much of a performance boost from the Remus exhaust, it does have a very fine-tuned sound. And if you're not a fan of the tailpipe tips, there is still a wide selection of tips available, including ones styled like the stock tailpipe. Recommended for its well-balanced sound and wide selection of styles.

Eisenmann Stainless Steel Axle-Back Exhaust

Price – $3,647

Performance – N/A

Sound – Deep rumbling sound and a racing note after taking off

Build – Axle-back with four large oval tailpipes

The Eisenmann exhaust makes use of a special lightweight stainless steel. It's hand-built and inspired by motorsport exhaust systems. This one in particular also comes with variable tailpipe tip options, including ones that look like the stock tailpipe, which is a bolt-on system for easier installation. However, the real reason to go with the Eisenmann is for the sound it creates. Eisenmann has a history of making stock exhausts for AMG, and that experience shows in their sport exhaust. Of all the other exhausts, this one sounds the most similar to an AMG exhaust. Recommended for incredible racing sound.

Meisterschaft Stainless GT Racing Exhaust

Price – $1,800; $2,798 with valve control

Performance – Up to a 10% increase in horsepower at the camshaft

Sound – Very aggressive sound; louder than most other exhausts

Build – Axle-back with four large round slanted tailpipes

Meisterschaft knows how to put together an impressive exhaust package. Not only does the Meisterschaft come with impressive sound and improved performance, but it also comes with a valve control package that's cheaper than the competition. It includes some nice options like black chrome tips, chrome canisters, and pipes. The performance gains it grants are impressive. It is, however, much louder than other exhausts. This is not an issue if you get the electronic valve control, which allows you adjust the noise from inside the car. The Meisterschaft is recommended for having the best overall value in sport exhausts.
