2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE53 AMG: A Closer Look
A wide range of engines is offered for the discriminating buyer.
VEHICLE FRONT
The Mercedes GLE is offered in many configurations. This one is a step above the base version.

EMBLEM
This AMG emblem means there is more performance under the hood. It's also is a hint the price tag will cost more too!
ENGINE
The base GLE motor is a 255-horsepower four-cylinder, or buyers can move up to a 362 hp inline-six. Ordering the AMG package seen here takes that six to a new level, with turbo power boosting output to 429 horsepower. It is hooked to a 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive for maximum traction. The fuel economy is claimed to be 18/22 mpg. We observed 24 at 75 mph cruising. There are two higher-output V-8's offered, up to 603 horsepower.
WHEELS
These 20-inch AMG wheels are standard, along with Yokohama sport tires. While intended for pavement, traction in the dirt is very good.
GAUGE #1
The gauges can be programmed for many functions. Here is the standard setup, with a speedometer and tachometer.
GAUGE #2
The second gauge choice has a clock on the left, and a turbo boost reading on the right.
GAUGE #3
This gauge has fuel economy reading on left and G-force info on the right.
NAVIGATION
The navigation screen is huge, which is a welcome feature if used often.
CLIMATE
Unlike complicated systems of the past, this Mercedes has very simple controls for its climate system. It's very easy to use with little practice.
POV
This AMG has plenty of power, whether on the street or off the pavement. When the throttle is pressed down, the exhaust makes a roar. But in daily commuting, the vehicle is very quiet.
OFF ROAD
While this vehicle is intended mainly for street use, the all-wheel-drive and wide tires allow for off-road trips if needed.
PRICE SHEET
While the base GLE starts at about $55K, this AMG version hit near $83K. But ordering the high output V-8 version, with 603 horsepower, will raise it to $133K. So we are getting off cheap here!
