Updated G-Wagen

Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off the revamped 2025 G550 and G63 models, introducing a host of upgrades, technological advancements, and personalized options through the Manufaktur service. While the iconic silhouette remains unchanged, Mercedes engineers have diligently worked on refining the bodywork to enhance efficiency without compromising the legendary off-road prowess of the G-Class. A few awesome new features also make living with the G-Wagen even more enjoyable!

1. No More V8 For the G550

Taking the place of the biturbo V8 under the hood of the G550 is a newly introduced turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, delivering an impressive 443 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque. Bolstered by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, this powertrain offers an additional 20 hp and 148 lb-ft at lower speeds, resulting in brisk acceleration and a top speed of 130 mph. Bid farewell to the V8, as this new engine promises improved efficiency without sacrificing performance.

2. Extra Power for G63 Thanks to Hybrid Tech

Meanwhile, the G63 retains its ferocious 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, now enhanced with integrated starter generator technology. This upgrade elevates the power output to a staggering 597 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque, ensuring blistering acceleration with a 0-60 mph time of just 4.2 seconds. Paired with a nine-speed AMG Speedshift TCT transmission, the G63 offers uncompromising performance on any terrain.

3. Offroad Cockpit and Transparent Hood Feature

For the adventurous at heart, Mercedes introduces the Offroad Cockpit, providing vital off-roading information such as steering angle, diff lock status, temperature, tire pressure, and altitude. Additionally, a Transparent Hood function aids in maneuvering by offering a clear view of obstacles directly in front of the vehicle, ensuring confident navigation through challenging terrain.

4. Optional Active Steering Assists

The optional Active Steering Assist can be engaged at speeds of up to 100 MPH, allowing for easier operation during longer drives and road trips. This feature also boasts an active emergency stop that can help bring the vehicle to a safe stop in case the driver is incapacitated behind the wheel.

5. New Driving Modes for G550

The 2025 G550 introduces a comprehensive array of driving modes tailored to diverse terrains and driving conditions. In addition to standard modes like Comfort, Sport, and Eco, drivers can select specialized modes such as Trail, Rock, and Sand, optimizing performance for specific off-road challenges. These driving modes enhance versatility and adaptability, allowing drivers to conquer rugged landscapes with confidence and precision.

6. Lower Drag Coefficient

Efforts to refine the G-Class extend to its aerodynamics, with streamlined bodywork enhancing efficiency and performance. Updates include resculpted A-pillars and redesigned bumpers, contributing to a reduced drag coefficient and improved overall aerodynamics. These exterior updates may come across as too subtle to make a difference. But the staggering effectiveness of the sculptural enhancements is undeniable when looking at the G-Wagen's drag coefficient, which has reportedly been improved from 0.55 to 0.48!
