5 Gnarly Mercedes Off Roading Builds
When you want to go off the grid but can't give up on driving a Mercedes-Benz, you turn one into an off-roader.
1982 Mercedes-Benz 300 SD Built For Rally Racing
The owner of this '82 Mercedes S-Class reportedly bought it for a mere $540. It needed a proper restoration if it were to be of any use. Instead of bringing it to its original glory, however, Bryce Ronsonet decided to go for something a little more adventurous. Equipped with capable off-roading suspension and rolling stock, this 300 SD now lives as a Gambler 500 competitor with a post-apocalyptic aesthetic. And we're diggin' it.
Sprinter Expedition Camper Van Built For Off-Grid Adventures
Starting life as quite an ordinary white Sprinter van, this mighty creation was given a much cooler purpose by its builder. Appropriately nicknamed Bruce Banner, this off-roading camper van has a lot in common with the Incredible Hulk. Not only does it have a dirty green and black color combo, it's also capable of trekking to places its former Sprinter self would not be able to go.
1998 Mercedes-Benz E430 Prerunner Build
The sight of a Mercedes-Benz sedan lifted and wearing enormous off-road tires isn't something one gets used to easily. But that's precisely what we're featuring in this list, this time a '98 E-Class. The posterchild of cheap and (relatively) reliable luxury vehicles nowadays, the W210 Mercedes can also serve as the starting point for a beastly Prerunner build, as it appears.
Delta 4x4 Mercedes-Benz X-Class
We haven't gotten the X-Class Stateside (yet), but German-based shop Delta 4x4 has already done to the Mercedes pickup what many American shops would love to get the chance to do. The beefed-up look certainly looks appropriate for a truck like the X-Class.
Mercedes-Benz S500 Luxury Off-Road Build
And that brings us to, arguably, the gnarliest of off-road Mercedes-Benz builds we've come across over the years. This W140 Mercedes S500 has been thoroughly modified and converted to a 4x4 luxury off-roader. This video on YouTube documents the build process nicely. The Russian builder starts off with a Mercedes that looks to be on its last legs and gives it a whole new lease on life, the only way a Russian knows how!
